Brexit, Johnson and the Virus – cartoons

The debacle continues!!

The Corona Diaries – Day 182.

‘I I I need to tell the great British people, aaaah, gashooks, that we are in great peril! Periculum magni! Gosh, it’s bad!’

‘There, there, there is only one answer. By Zeus. We’ve got to all come together to, aah, errr, fight this enemy. By Jove.’

‘We’ll um, er, wotsit, fight it in the fish and chip shops. Yes we will! In the supermarkets. Gosh. And in the pubs, yes the pubs. We, er, er, will stop at nothing!  We will never, er, ever, surrender!’

‘And, and, this is why I’m telling the British people, the er gosh, freedom-loving people of our great country, that we have to, awf awf, destroy this virus, by golly, drive it into the sea! We shall, er er, never bally stop!’

‘So today I am taking major strides towards, yew yew, aaagh, making us all safe. And, and and we have to jolly well follow the rules. It’s jolly important! So from today the pubs will shut at 10 pm! That’ll show the blighter! We’re changing, arf arf, aaagh, social distancing to aaah, 1 metre 26, outside and .954 of a metre inside, or something like that. I can’t quite remember what that Whitty fellow said. Anyway, keep apart, except if you’re very rich er er, then you can shoot grouse and party all night because, aaaah aaaah, you won’t be spreading the disease. teams can play sport but, aaah, aaah, arf, they can only have three in a team, unless, aaah, urgh, they are all from the same family, or or or similar families, then it can be up to, um um a hundred. But er, er, only if they wear knee-length boots to er protect against airborne virus on the grass.’

‘And, um, er, er, remember – you have to jolly well work from home – but nip out to buy sandwiches and er er gosh, always use public transport! And er arf arf, wear a mask – though not one of me – or aaaah that serial killer chappie.’

‘So, err, eat out to save my arse and stay in to aaaah, save yours.’

‘So, arf arf, my friends, remember, we’re all in it together. An an an to jolly well bring into line, all those arf, pesky youngsters out partying like there’s no tomorrow – well actually, there isn’t any tomorrow, is there arf arf – we’re going to um er er fine you all, well huh, not quite all of you, but those blighters not following the rules, to the letter. My good friend Rishi says we need the cash. This, er er bally virus, is costing us a fortune! So it’ll be £10,000 quid a pop! Straight, um um, from your bank into, er eer, my pocket!’

‘I’m jolly, er, glad, we cleared all that up! Now it’s bally well past two-o-clock – er errr, time for my bottle of red and, err er, my afternoon nap.’

I always find it exhilarating to hear our illustrious leader speak. He manages to clarify things in such a magnificent manner. His oratory and use of language reminds me of Churchill after his fifth bottle.

So nice to see him being allowed out to use the teleprompter. I bet Cummings had his heart in his mouth.

It’s so good to see that despite being in a terrible state with a fast-rising rate (up to 4,368 new cases yesterday and science experts predicting up to 50,000 cases a day if this rate continues, hospital cases rising fast and death not too far behind) Johnson is proposing to shut pubs by 10.00 pm. That’ll stop it! There’s nowt like firm, decisive action – and this is nothing like firm, decisive action.

In the States there was another 39,127 cases and 426 deaths, while in Brazil it was only 13,439 with 377 deaths!

Today, being the last day of summer and temperatures of 22 degrees here in Yorkshire, we headed out for the day onto the moors. Walked up to the Roman road and had a drive around – glorious.

Tomorrow the temperatures drop and autumn is upon us. I wonder what autumn and winter, under the heroic leadership of Johnson, Rees-Mogg and Cummings, has in store for us?

Stay Safe everyone!

Johnson the Joker – Moonshot cartoons

I think people are becoming used to Johnson making absurd claims followed by incompetent performance.

It was the hallmark of his years as a politician and lamentable Home Secretary.

By now we know that it’s a pipedream – off the cuff bit of rubbish – just like everything else has been. Apps, PPE, Track and Trace, Brexit – all lies, smoking mirrors and dramatic hyperbole with no substance.

Put a clown in charge and don’t be surprised if you get stupidity.

The Ballad of Dominic Cummings

The Ballad of Dominic Cummings
There once was a couple called Domie and Boris
Who hosted a party in their garden of roses
All their pals and the media had gathered there
For Domie Cummings, his soul to bare

We had a pandemic in the World you see
The people were told they were no longer free
To go outside and socialise
Nor visit their loved ones as they died

But that rule was not for everyone
And Cummings broke it with impunity
He got a story drafted for us
Knowing that Boris would provide immunity

After all Boris had nothing else on his plate
Just the pandemic and that could wait
So he and his cronies supported their buddy
As the truth, his tale, was intended to muddy

Fairy Tale of Barnard Castle
[Based loosely] on the tune of “Fairy Tale of New York”, The Pogues]

“ My eyes were fuzzy and I could not see so good
So we all got in my car. I’m really quite a dude
And then we had a trip to Barnard Castle town
But going back again, we had to stop”

Then the river was calling so we took a little walk
Alongside it’s rippling flow we passed the time
But then we had to leave to drive back home again
Then came the miracle, my sight was fine

Now that bit is the truth there will be no regrets
And I’ve always got Boris to watch my back
Though I spread the beastie
through our green and pleasant land
I am pretty sure that I’ll not get the sack

Chorus
We’ve got cars big as bars
We’ve got bank accounts to match
So we really don’t care much
For daft rules on our patch
Just let all the low paid keep this country fit
While we open the champagne and dream of Brexit

He’s a bum
He’s a twit
He’s gotta be on smack
If he thinks we believe him
He’s buttoned up the back

As the boys of the right wing syndicate
were singing Jerusalem
The bells were ringing out for Dominie

The Corona Diaries – Day 173

Great day today. We went for a long walk at Ravenscar to Robin Hood’s Bay. Met up with a couple of friends, had fish and chips and a beer or two while keeping suitably distanced. We put the world to rights. Castigated Trump and Johnson. Lamented Brexit. Discussed the latest travesty as the Tories dump human rights. Had a glass or two of wine. Watched the sun over the sea and the glow on the ruins of Whitby Abbey and came home suitably refreshed!!

It is still strange times that we are living!!

I’m now back in my room, playing some Sleepy John Estes, and turning my attention to the Coronavirus fiasco! Oh for sanity and good government. All this bunch of extreme nutters care about is Brexit!!

So here we are – Human Rights dumped under the pretext of it stopping criminals and terrorists being deported and lines solicitors pockets. It’s like reading the Daily Mail or Daily Express. They take away your rights and protection and tell you that you’re better off. It’s Orwellian.

So here we are safe with the Tories.

Our human rights dumped.

Our workers’ rights dumped.

Environmental rights trashed.

Food standards dumped.

International laws broken.

Irish situation in turmoil.

Scotland about to leave the union.

The easiest deal in the world proves the hardest.

The South of England about to become a lorry park.

Tariffs on goods.

Billions spent on new customs buildings and staff.

Food and goods about to go up in price.

More bureaucracy and red tape.

A loss of our freedom to travel without restriction.

World-beating apps dumped.

World-beating Track and Trace – a joke.

Oven-ready Brexit – a joke.

Worst death-rate in the world.

Worst hit economy in the world.

A PM who is a clown.

Operation Moonshot – something out of a bad Sci-fi comic.

I bet you’re glad we put this bunch in with an 80 seat majority!

With 3330 new cases, a steep rise, the R number above 1, hospital cases rising, deaths rising – we can look forward to a lovely winter!! The Barnard Castle effect means that nobody takes a blind bit of notice of Billy Bunter and his team of incompetent, greedy clowns.

Same in the USA – another 39,184 new cases and 696 deaths – so much for this Deep State hoax!! But Bolsonaro is envious. He could only muster 33,523 new cases! He’s in danger of falling behind in the race for global ineptitude!! But he did manage 814 more deaths!!

One would have thought that people might be beginning to wake up to the correlation – if you elect populist clowns you get incompetent government. If you elect leaders who are stupid, don’t read, don’t believe science and are selfish, greedy and narcissistic – when you get an emergency their failings show up!! Johnson, Trump and Bolsonaro – the three stooges!! How many lives have they wrecked???

Stay safe everyone. They’ll be elections. We can restore sanity!

Democracy – and how to finally get some.

We live in a democracy – except we don’t.

A democracy is when the people make the decisions – we’ve seen what a mess that is with Brexit.

So we have a representative democracy. We appoint people who are wiser, more intelligent and knowledgeable than ourselves to make decisions on our behalf.

That doesn’t seem to work too well either.

The people we vote into office turn out to be stupid, ignorant and uncaring.

So why do we keep voting them in?

There are a number of reasons for that:

  1. The system – in order to become elected they have to have a huge, expensive propaganda machine behind them. The people who control this propaganda machine want people they can control. People who will put into place the laws and policies that favour them. Political parties are controlled by the establishment. We end up with a limited choice from the candidates the establishment put forward. Nobody else stands a chance.
  2. The media – the media are owned by wealthy establishment figures. Through the spin and propaganda they pour into peoples’ minds they control what the electorate think. We can see that after forty years of anti-EU propaganda and the shit-storm that was directed at Corbyn. The establishment wanted Brexit and they thought Corbyn would be a threat to their privileged position.
  3. The stupidity, naivety and gullibility of us, the general public. Half the population have an IQ below a hundred. Political education is extremely poor – most people do not know how the political parties were formed or what they stand for. The constant stream of lies and spin that comes at us from the media creates a suspicion of all news. We don’t know what to believe. Issues are so complex and interwoven that you have to be an expert to understand them. So we are easily manipulated.
  4. The tendency for sociopaths to fool people and gain power. Sociopaths, because they really do not care – indeed, might actually gain pleasure from hurting people, have a tendency to rise to powerful positions. They don’t care who they hurt. They do not agonise over decisions. They appear black and white and decisive – characteristics that people look for in a leader. Only when they are in power do we realise what mean, selfish bastards they really are.
  5. Power corrupts. Nice people, who were caring, become narcissistic, selfish bastards. They begin to believe that they are indeed better than everyone else and deserve all the wealth and sycophancy that goes with their position. It’s an addiction. It makes them sociopathic.

So how do we make democracy work? I’ve a few ideas:

  1. Educate the people so that they can understand much better what is going on.
  2. Control the media so that it is unbiased and fact-checked. Stop the establishment elite from owning it and using it as a propaganda tool.
  3. Fund election from the public purse on a very limited budget so that the establishment is not in control of it.
  4. Make politicians accountable so that at any point the people can vote them out, not just in elections.

I do not believe we can have a democracy while the establishment are in control of the system and the media!
