Mayhem and Madness in the Tory Political arena.

The hurricane is still roaring through, the battle has raged, and the wounded are dragging their broken bodies off the field. That field is now strewn with the corpses as assassinations, toxic emails, political manoeuvring and ruthless callous knifings have ravaged careers.

Cameron heads off, singing, towards his chosen future with hopes of having Johnson, Gove and IDS’s knives painlessly removed from his back. Osborn licks his wounds and looks to realign himself after his coronation was tantalisingly ripped from his grasp. Boris still has Gove’s sword sticking out of his chest and by leaving the field has opened himself up to jeers of cowardice and duplicity. Gove has been revealed as the snivelling weasel he has always been and has more knives in him than a porcupine has spines. Leadsom is left reeling from the vitriol poured upon her as the full force of Tory bullying was brought to bear.

We now hear that Jaws signature tune playing as the extreme right-wing sharks circle the corpse and Fox, IDS, Hunt and Davies look to exploit the chaos and set their own unpleasant agendas.

Meanwhile, like an escapee from Narnia, the Ice-Queen – the Queen of May, presides over the boiling hatred and division.

Who could have written this? The House of Cards did not begin to touch on the political intrigue and viciousness. This has been the House of Tarot Cards where Death – Major Arcana – rules.

I predict more blood is yet to flow. We haven’t even started on the economic fall-out – the coming recession – or the havoc of EU withdrawal. The hatred will likely become white hot and the incandescence will scorch many more yet. It may well take generations to seal rifts created by such deep wounds and levels of betrayal and extreme nastiness.

The Nasty Party has sure lived up to its epithet; it’s nastiness has only been exceeded by it’s folly.

Has anyone been thinking about the future of the country?

Boris’s real reason for dropping out and Gove’s real reason for knifing him!

Boris was never a Leaver. He did not believe that was the best thing for the country. Boris is an opportunist. He knew it would be a close result but believed Remain would win by a narrow margin. He believed that it would be close enough to remove Cameron and he would be elected.

It went horribly wrong.

He was immediately horrified and was looking for ways out of the mess.

Gove knew Boris’s heart wasn’t in it and that he would do a U-turn so he butchered him.

Boris did not complain too much. He was out of it.

Gove is unelectable. He’s a refugee from a star-system a long way away who suffered a personality melt-down in hyperspace.

May is having to talk tough in order to get elected by the ultra-right Brexiteers. But will

anyone dare to plunge the country into disaster by actually pressing the button?

I hope not but I suspect they will have to because they lack the imagination to do otherwise.

The role of Parliament and Brexit.

The role of parliament is to make the best decisions for the good of the country.

If the vast majority of parliament believes that to leave the EU is against the interests of the British people are they morally bound to vote against leaving despite the referendum result?

There are many precedents.

Backstabbing and deviousness!!!

You couldn’t write it in a soap opera!

4,031,679 people sign the petition for a Referendum rerun – What does it mean?

In the wake of the referendum there is turmoil.

Both political parties are in meltdown. The money markets are down. The pound has fallen. There is social upheaval and a rise in hate crime.  There is uncertainty over the future of the UK. There are hard-line stances from Europe. There is a dip in the world markets. There are backtracking over promises.

Nasty words have been exchanged between those who voted in and those who voted out. People have been extremely emotional and have entrenched themselves in their stances – seeing things in black and white. Tempers are running high.

There are great fears as to where Britain is heading. The pessimists see a terrible future of break-up of the UK, recession, austerity and social upheaval. The optimists think that it will all settle down and be OK. The reality is that nobody knows. We have never been here before.

The Brexiteers react very defensively regarding any discussion of the troubles – denying there are any problems.

The Remainers focus on every indication of a problem and see it as the beginning of worse to come.

Somehow we have to find a way of solving the problems instead of making them worse. Somehow we have to apply intelligence and objectivity to find a way forward that is in the best interests of the country and all the people who live in it.

Step one is that we need to recognise that there are real problems being felt by a range of different people. These need addressing.

The Brexiteers resent feeling that they are being blamed and ridiculed.

The Remainers are dismayed at the vision of a broken Britain.

Foreigners are feeling unwelcome and are becoming frightened.

Politicians for Brexit are looking at the future and trying to see a way of keeping their promises and realising that these are not possible. Some want a hard line and some want to backtrack.

Politicians for Remain are looking for ways of going forward. Their parties are in disarray and the country is split.

The right-wing extremist thugs think they have a mandate to express their hatred and racism.

The young are blaming the old.

London, Scotland and Ireland are blaming the rest of Britain and want to be rid.

Europe wants to punish and make an example.

What a cocktail of emotion.

The 4 million signers of the petition are expressing their fear and dismay. Never has there been such an outpouring. They cannot just be ignored.

The important thing is simple – what is in the best interests of the country? How do we solve these problems? How can we apply intelligence instead of partisan emotions?

Well step one must be to recognise the state we are in and then to look for solutions.

The Referendum releases an upsurge in racism and hate crime.

The vote for Brexit appears to have empowered a tiny minority of extremists to feel that it is alright to express their hatred and racism.

People of different colour or culture are being approached ion the streets and in their own homes and threatened and harangued. This is intolerable.

This is not the type of country I want to live in. I want to live in a tolerant, pleasant, friendly cosmopolitan country.

These mindless hate-filled morons must be dealt with.

Out of Europe for the second time in four days!!

Methodical, uninspired, laborious, lacklustre, dull, fear-ridden, below par, unable to penetrate, boring, disorganised, shackled, with no passion or energy.

It was a terrible performance. England cracked under pressure. All the players underperformed. The manager’s tactics were woeful. The players looked like hamstrung puppets. When Rashford came on he looked like a breath of fresh air – unrestrained and willing to take them on. Why only three minutes?

Why drop Lallana for this game?  Was he injured?

The fault lies with the manager. A manager’s job is to organise the team and remove the fear that stops them performing. He failed on both.

What a miserable performance.

Brexit – Where do we go from here? How do we dig ourselves out?

Three and a half million people sign the petition for a rerun – that’s a lot of anger and frustration.

The Prime Minister resigns

The Opposition Leader is on the way out

The pound has dived

The stock markets have dived

Companies are planning to leave

Our credit rating is dropping

Brexit MPs are already going back on promises

Half the country is gleeful and gloating

Half are furious and frustrated

Europe want us out as quickly as possible

There is a promised hard-line on trade agreements from the EU to dissuade other countries from following suit

There is a hard-nosed visit from the USA to look at trade

Scotland is looking to veto the result and stop us going out

Scotland and Ireland are both demanding a referendum with the break-up of the UK

The exchange rate is already affecting prices – petrol is going up and the rest will follow.

There will be two to three years of turmoil fuelling decline in the economy

Our credit rating is going down

Boris has become a hate figure for half the country

We will have a new more right-wing government with austerity, cuts, privatisation and decimation of public services

The country is divided like never before

What an absolute mess.

So what is a way out of all this?

I would suggest:

  • We hold off starting the process until we are more sorted
  • The Tories and Labour have their Leadership processes
  • We hold a general election
  • The parties ask for a mandate to proceed with Brexit or to renegotiate with the EU
  • We need a Prime Minister who is not tainted and can try to heal the rift that is so raw
  • Perhaps Boris could then apologise for all his lies and false reassurances. Project Fear – as he so eloquently dubbed it is fast becoming Project Fact.
  • I would like to see us back in the EU negotiating to sort out the problems rather than languishing under a Tory government with severe economic problems in an isolated corner.

Returned home!! Good to be back!!

Well, once again we are back home! Expect more posts!

It has not been a brilliant week. We went away visiting relatives and friends in the deep south past the Thames Delta. I wanted to share my book with Nick Harper so that we could get it published for this Autumn, we saw my sisters and some good friends in Birmingham and Brighton as well as my son in London.

It seemed like a good idea but firstly the turbo went on the car and it was towed off. We did get a courtesy car though and managed to pick up a parking ticket on that! All told an expensive trip!

I am now awaiting the return of our car and a hefty bill. We are picking up the pieces. Still we got to see people and that was great!

It’s good to be back though! No place like home! We’re picking up the pieces!

Blues Trail – Mississippi – A bit more!

Back in the days of segregation (not that long ago) the black and white music was kept well apart. Blacks had their own radio stations with their own music. The Blues, Jazz and R&B were played. The whites got C&W.

We stopped off at a Blues museum to celebrate James ‘Son’ Thomas and were treated to a performance from his son Pat Thomas. He was quite a character.

I caught Hubert Sumlin playing in Leeds and took my youngest son along to see the legend. He was Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist.

Highway 61 was the route the Blues guys travelled up and down the country.

I stood where BB King had busked. Nobody gave me a penny!

I saw Skip play in Hammersmith London shortly before he died – one of the greats!
