A photo I nearly discarded – but now love!

I nearly chucked this one away. The subject of the two gannets greeting each other with a beak kiss was powerful but it was unfortunately bleached out and lacking in detail.

But I kept coming back to it. I liked the dark shadow, the image of crossed bills and the colour.

I grew to love it.

Although the image is blurred and lacking in detail there was something about it that attracted me!

Fantastic to see so many gorgeous birds nesting on these cliffs – gannets, guillemots, razor-bills, gulls, shags and puffins. I don’t know how they manage to perch on such narrow ledges let alone stop their eggs and hatchlings from falling to their doom!

Thesy were flying up to the top of the cliff to pull out beakfuls of grass to take back to their nests! Fascinating to watch.

The Gannets were nesting at Bempton. They were landing on the cliffs in order to grab beakfuls of grass for their nests. We were able to get really close to these large magnificent birds.

Yorkshire is a beautiful county. The sun always shines.

Bempton cliffs is an amazing place. The birdlife is exceptional. The colony of Gannets is amazing and Puffins are gorgeous.

I write and take shots in the hopes that we preserve all this beauty in nature for future generations to wonder at – and of course for all the other creatures that inhabit this planet with us. They are all as important as we are!! They need protecting and caring for!
