Poetry – Global Change

Global Change

The wettest February followed by the sunniest May

As the Indian Ocean fuels the jet stream.

We’re going too slowly, with feet of clay;

We’re moving as if in a dream.

The bleaching of the coral reef.

The clearance of the forest tree.

Defies the psychology of disbelief

As levels of carbon rise upon the breeze.

The rising of the oceans,

The changing patterns of weather

Should focus all our notions.

We need to act all together!

My Photos of Australian animals pt. 2

This is all the wondrous life that is being destroyed by climate change, big business and corrupt politicians.

No!! The economy is not more important than this fabulous wildlife. We have to make room for both us and them!!

My Photos of Australian animals pt. 1

Being a zoologist who just loves animals having the opportunity to go to Australia was paradise. I was able to see a whole range of Australian animals before the politicians in cahoots with big business kills them all off.

I saw some spectacular wildlife. A big thank you to Pete and Trudy who made that possible. I’m forever in your debt!

Today’s Music to keep me SANE during Isolation – the Eels

Today the sun is shining but I’m feeling a bit jaded still, so I wanted something appropriate to my mood!

I settled for the Eels!!

a friend of mine called Dave introduced me to the Eels many moons ago. It was in the days of Novocaine for the Soul. That pretty much sums up how I feel about this lousy destructive, greed-ridden society we’ve constructed.

So today I will be blasting out a bit of Eels!!

Green Hills of Derbyshire – Photos

While we are stuck inside I’ve been looking back through the photos. It’s great to see the beauty of nature all around us.

The Farne Islands – A mass of nesting seabirds – Photos

As we approached one of the islands it was amazing to see the profusion of birdlife. The rocks were covered in birds and birdlime. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

Poetry – Something’s Gotta Change

Something’s Gotta Change

Two swallows chuntering on the wire.

Five swifts screeching in the sky.

Once so many, now so few.

Remnants – for us to question why.

When insects were plentiful

They fed their hungry brood.

Now the times are tough

There’s a shortage of food.

One thing cascades into another

As we spray with insecticide,

Fill in ponds and streams.

Populations tumble while we decide.

Something has got to change

If we are to stop the rot.

Unless we want a sterile world

With a temperature far too hot.

We’re living in a movie!!

We are living in a movie! A whole series of movies! Or is it just that those movies represent the sad state of human beings on this planet??

Connaught Cinema summed it up:

Photos of beautiful Northumberland – 2015.

Northumberland is a beautiful undiscovered county of raw landscape, castles, islands and wildlife.

I visited it again five years ago and was completely knocked out!!

Anthropocene Apocalypse – A World Crisis?

Anthropocene Apocalypse – A World Crisis?

Anthropocene Apocalypse – a world crisis?

As the world population soars towards a projected 10 Billion.

As the world’s mammals have been decimated to 44% of what they were 40 years ago!

As the world’s invertebrate population has crashed by nearly half in the last forty years!

As the elephant and lion now join the tiger, rhino and jaguar on the endangered list!

Are we approaching a day when the natural world will be nothing more than a footnote in the history books?

Will we be showing our children and grandchildren the remnants of our wild-life in zoos?

Will we be pollinating our flowers by hand?

Does anybody actually care?

You can read about my own observations and feelings about this in my book:

Please give it a read and pass it round to all your friends. It is time we did something about it. We can alter the zeitgeist!
