No human being should be kept in these conditions:

We thought we’d put this kind of cruelty behind us with the Holocaust. It’s back!
I wrote this novel out of rage. I had reached the age of fifty-three and was taking a real hard look at the world, humanity and myself. There was an element of despair. What came out was a vitriolic howl of fury!
Excerpt – 53 and imploding
Bear baiting, cock fighting, dog fighting, bull fighting, gladiatorial fights and stoning to death are all cruel activities carried out by evil fuckers in the past or evil barbaric fuckers in uncivilised countries. Except these evil fuckers are or were considered ordinary people by everyone and themselves. Those cruel displays were eagerly visited by the masses of ordinary people. They sat and ate their equivalent of popcorn and oohed and aahed as the victims got ripped to pieces before their eyes. That’s real. Our civilised revulsion is a thin veneer covering a festering propensity towards violence.
There are no rules.
We make it up as we go.
We probably need the rules because deep down in our genes we are all evil fuckers.
I have to check down into myself to see if I can find the symptoms. I crane my neck at accidents.

You would think that by now, with our huge brains, we might have dreamed up a better world. But no. The same old barbaric thinking, same violence, same war, nastiness, cruelty, hate and vengeance. All that’s different is that we have bigger, nastier weapons! We can kill better!
Evolved? We’re going backwards!!

I Am Woke
In a perfect world it would not be necessary
To point out all the evils in one’s own culture.
All cultures have unpleasant, nasty and even
Downright evil aspects hidden in their history.
Making oneself aware of the things that were
Wrong in the past is the first step.
Wearing rose-tinted glasses and pretending
That everything about one’s culture is perfect
Only serves to perpetuate the problems
So that nothing ever gets better.
Keeping your senses and mind open to accept
That mistakes were, and still are, being made
Enables us to find better ways of living together
And accommodating those who are different.
I Am Woke to the knowledge that my ancestors got lots of things horribly wrong.
I am woke to their mistakes and cultural attitudes.
I am woke to a better world.
I Am Woke!

I live in a culture that once felt so superior to other cultures that they condoned racism and slavery.
I live in a culture that used to think wild animals could be abused without remorse, that condoned bear-baiting, bull-fighting, dog and cock fighting and believed that watching animals tearing each other apart was entertainment.
I belong to a culture that thought war was glorious and that to die in battle was noble.
I belong to a culture that believes some people deserve much more than others because they, by birth, are inherently superior.
I belong to a culture where ordinary people had to fight, protest and die for the right to vote, for a fair day’s pay for a fair days work and for safe conditions in the workplace.
I am woke to all this and lots more.
What are the evils that existed in your culture? Misogyny? Persecution? Cruelty? Violence?
What aspects still need addressing?
I am woke to the need for equality, freedom, fairness and a world that lives in harmony with nature.
My patriotism is so big in encompasses the whole world and every living thing.
I am not ashamed to be woke!!
Birth
Genocide, larceny and slavery
The founding of a nation.
The red man and the black man
Exploitation, extermination.
Looking for a new life
Full of arrogant superiority.
With guns, whips and slipknots,
Possessing wealth the priority.
Born through rites of murder
And heartless cruelty;
Hypocrisy and fear;
Evading all penalty.
Hundreds of years have passed
But the attitude persists.
Throttling the very necks
Of anyone who resists.
Time to put it right
To make positive what might be.
To respect each other –
With a new era of equality.

The systems we have created are simply not functioning for the majority of people. There is far too much poverty around the world, far too much discrimination and exploitation.
A small elite have extreme wealth and control politics and governments. They buy politicians. They buy elections. They tilt everything their way and leave huge poverty and division in their wake.
Fire in my Head
There’s a fire in my head
That flows through my arteries
Through my fingers
Into the words on this page.
It can make you jump
Or make you sing
Or turn your thoughts
To rage.
For there are those
Who would stymie fun
And control
Your every thought.
They strive to instil
Their doctrine
Into everything
That is taught.
That fire burns
And rages
That they should all
Be opposed.
For if we do not
Have the right
To be free
Nothing can be supposed.
Opher – 13.11.2019
Every time I read about injustice or intolerance it fills me with a rage. For there are those who would tyrannise, exploit or destroy – and they need opposing.
I’m glad I’ve got a fire in my head.
Madness
Madness,

Who allows these leaders to get away with it?

Sometimes I think human beings suffer with mass insanity!
We elect psychopaths.
We do the most ridiculous, foolish things.
We are so cruel and thoughtless.

The largest mass slaughter of dolphins in recorded history just turned the sea red. Demand this hunt be banned! Sign Now opher,The waters off the coast of the Faroe Islands literally ran red on the night of September 12, filled with the blood of almost 1,500 dolphins that were mercilessly chased, cornered, and then brutally stabbed to death. That Sunday evening, boats surrounded the terrified, fleeing, thrashing pod of dolphins. They chased them into shallow enough water so that their terrible task could be performed, then they took out their knives and began. Dolphins were stabbed, shivering and left to bleed out; some of their spines were severed so they were paralyzed but fully conscious as they slowly died. By the end, 1,428 dolphins were dead. The Faroe Islands make up an autonomous region in the Kingdom of Denmark, and these hunts, known as “the grind” or Grindadrap in Faroese, began in the 9th century when our oceans had not yet been pillaged of nearly all their resources and whaling still happened on a small, sustainable scale to support small communities of people. But in recent history, these hunts have been criticized by animal rights activists as needless, cruel, and totally unsustainable. And this record high death toll has given even some supporters of the hunt pause. That’s how vast the cruel slaughter was — even the chairman of the Faroese Whalers Association said, “It was a big mistake.”Obviously, this event is no longer necessary, appropriate, or able to be regulated in a way where animals don’t suffer. Sign the petition and demand that the European Union outlaw this bloody, unsustainable, cruel tradition — ban the Grindadrap!Thank you, LaurenThe Care2 Petitions Team P.S. This traditional Faroese dolphin hunt has always been cruel, but this most recent one went above and beyond. Sign the petition to ban it once and for all. |
There is a nasty part of our psychological make-up.
History is littered with torture chambers, vile weapons of torture and gleeful crowds at public hangings, public torturings, burnings, drownings and cruel acts.
History is littered with the most horrendous torture and cruelty towards animals – baiting, fighting and skinning alive.
History is littered with ruthless people seizing power and wealth regardless of the impact on others and delighting in causing misery.
Most animals are better than this.
How do we overcome this?
This really spells it out!
