Multiculturalism

I want to live in a diverse, tolerant multicultural society. I think that is enriching for both myself and my family.

I do not have a problem with immigration as long as the number of immigrants does not reach a level that usurps endemic populations. That means that the level of immigration needs limiting.

I am totally opposed to all forms of racism.

I believe all people, regardless of their colour, creed or heritage should be treated equally. Everything should be based on merit.

I believe that there should be no place for hate.

I believe that immigrants should be assimilated into our culture while being free to honour their own cultures.

I believe that the law of the land supersedes everything. We all live in the UK and should be subject to this law. I do not want to see ANY religious courts.

In order to facilitate full integration I would ban ALL religious schools and make the indoctrination of children a crime. This would apply to Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Islamic (and other) schools. I believe this religious indoctrination of young minds is child abuse.

I believe that all unBritish misogynistic practices should be outlawed and strongly enforced. That would, in my opinion, include female genital mutilation, forced marriages and the burqa.

I believe any person spreading hatred should be deported.

I believe that people who come to live in Britain do so because they want to live here; to take advantage of our freedoms and the opportunities our society provides. They should fit in and abide by our laws.

I do not understand why anybody should want to come here and then attempt to change this country back into a replica of the country they came from. If that kind of society is how they want to live they should stay in that society.

This country is a secular country and I would fight to keep it so. Religion should have no place in government. Religion should be a personal choice for those old enough to decide. Theocracies are the worst of the worst. All types of theocracy are hideous.

I want to be free to criticise all religion and religious leaders! Nobody should be above criticism. There should be NO blasphemy laws.

I do not mind causing offence.

I want to live in a multicultural country, colourful, diverse and energetic. I want people integrated and welcome. I do not want backdoor apartheid.

Multiculturalism is working to an extent but needs a lot more clear thinking It is being undermined by religious leaders, by political policies and the far right. The level of immigration and the poor level of integration, coupled with officials not wishing to impose the law for fear of upset, is playing into the hands of far right agitators like Tommy Robinson, Nigel Farage and Elon Musk.

In my view we need to make multiculturalism work!

Forget the insular xenophobia of Brexit! Hybrids are stronger!!

Instead of shutting ourselves off we should be opening up borders and making ourselves strong!

Emma Raducanu, our latest British tennis sensation, is a prime example!

How the nation cheered her!!

Born in Canada with Chinese and Romanian parents and brought up in England!! A triumph for both immigration and multiculturalism!!

One in the eye for brainless racists!!

Multiculturalism and Integration.

We live in a multicultural pluralistic society. I like that.

I value multiculturalism. I want to see other cultures being valued in a positive light. I want to see people of all cultures, races and religions incorporated into our society. I believe we are all the stronger for that.

But I do not want to see that happening to the detriment of our British culture and values. I do not want to see an undermining of our British values of justice, tolerance, equality, freedom, fairness and democracy. Those values were hard fought for. They underpin our society.

I am not religious but I do not mind the rituals of Easter, Christmas, Ramadan, Hanukkah or Diwali being observed by those want to believe. I enjoy seeing things like the Chinese New Year and Dragon dance. These things enrich. I like things that enrich – art, dance, music, food, dress, festivals, cultural differences – these things enhance our lives. They make our culture all the greater.

What I want is all people in the UK living under the umbrella of British values. I want to see schools and communities integrated. I want an end to religious schools and isolated ghettos of race. I believe that every institution should be open to all regardless of race or gender.

I want rid of anything intolerant, separationist, elitist or undermining of the values of our nation. I do not want to see any form of religion interfering with our secular state or democracy.

In my view Multiculturalism is about valuing other people’s culture but not allowing it to replace or undermine our own.

Believing in multiculturalism does not mean allowing separation of people by gender, intolerance to other religious groups, the banning of our own festivals, intolerance towards homosexuals or other social groups, the wearing of religious costumes or insignia that undermine our values, the indoctrination of children, or a different system of law; it means integrating and valuing.

I am a firm believer that if you live in a country you need to learn to speak the language, accept the values and integrate into the community. I am all for welcoming people into our culture.

I have been a great supporter of multiculturalism but have begun to view the concept with suspicion.

I believe Respect is what it is all about. We should have Respect for each other, Respect for differences and Respect for beliefs.

Multiculturalism was an attempt to build bridges between cultures, mine respect and celebrate the values of all cultures.

Where it has failed is in my opinion a question of emphasis. It has become an obstacle to integration. It reinforced the culture of the minority culture and removed the need to integrate. The respect for the minority cultures has created apartness and resulted in enclaves.

I believe multiculturalism needs a re-launch. It’s aims should be respect, celebration and integration with the mainstream culture. We should be breaking down barriers, reasserting the values of our dominant culture, welcoming in minorities and acknowledging the worth and enrichment other cultures bring.

We need a policy to prevent this breaking down of our country into ghettos based on race and culture. We need an integrated society with shared values and respect.
