Poetry – Half a Brain

Half a Brain

We’re all born with half a brain.

The other half grows with love and care.

We neglect it at our peril.

Stunted brains may rip and tear.

All brain cells are nurtured

With cuddles, songs and laughs.

Every baby deserves a chance

With books, lullabies and crafts.

Neglecting our babies

Will stop their brains from growing,

Stifle their curiosity

So they won’t grow up knowing.

So many adults

Going round with half a brain.

For want of a little loving

Their life went down the drain.

Opher – 12.11.2019

Minds are fragile things. Without proper love, nutrition and care they develop badly. So many people are left emotionally crippled with lowered intelligence.

Every child deserves the best start in life.

We are all so fragile.

I think that is why we live in such a violent, destructive and greedy society.

Love is a refuge

Love is a refuge

Love is a refuge;

A sphere of unreality

That immunises us

From normality.

 Within that bubble

Lies a cosy warmth

Strong enough

To melt the coldest ice.

Peering out,

The world looks friendly

And every problem

Has an answer.

If only love

Could be inoculated

Into the whole population

Of the world.

What a paradise

We would inhabit.

Opher – 14.10.2019

What the world needs is more love.

Yet people kill for love.

Da Capo was a great punky album – full of grit.

Poetry – Come Close

Come Close

Come sit by my side,

Let us watch the sun slide into the sea.

As the sky puts on a show, cuddle in close

And be lost in its grand majesty.

Bathed in its glow,

As the colours all flow from gold

To crimson and blues,

And they breathe us in

To the connecting warmth of their hues.

As the heavens perform

With connections so warm to the stars

And beyond.

For the great dynamo

Of that heavenly show plays on the clouds

And into our bond;

And connects us through time

To the great pantomime our ancestors

Performed in their days;

The vibration of time

Never fail to be amazed.

So cuddle up close,

Ever so close, until we are one.

And we’ll play out our game

Until the game’s done.

Opher 6.9.2019

The sun sets like it has done for billions of years – a great performance in the sky that sweeps us into wonder and connects us to the heavens, time and our ancestors.

How many other lovers have sat cuddled together and were bathed in its mystic glow?

Poetry -Killing the Taliban

Killing the Taliban

I’m busy killing the Taliban

With my dancing and my song.

Causing their destruction

I don’t think it’ll take too long.

They’ve come out of the Dark Ages

With their joyless cult of death.

We’re fighting their misogyny

With all our hearts and breath.

There’s a misery surrounding them

With their brainwashed ideology.

They live for death; we live for life

And the love of being free.

So with our instruments of love

We’ll play our symphony

And waken the joys of life

From their stone-cold misery.

They made the mistake of thinking

Their god hates music and song;

That women are all second class;

How could they have got it all so wrong?

So with the magic of our strings

And the beauty of our voice

We’ll sing a song of love

That’ll make their hearts rejoice.

So I’m killing the Taliban today

I’m dancing as I sing.

They’ll throw their joyless book away

And let freedom ring!

Opher – 15.5.2019

What kind of miserable death cult is it that kills people for singing and dancing?

What kind of doctrine is it that squanders the wonder of their own lives and seeks to put an end to pleasure?

What kind of cult is this that seeks to live in the past? That thinks stoning is an apt punishment and women are inferior?

I think the human spirit is vital and alive. It knows that song and dance are not crimes.

You defeat such a brainwashed cult by showing them a better way.

Instead of following some hollow words from the Dark Ages we can come together to celebrate, women and men, children and the old, – there’s the treasure.

You kill a wicked, warped ideology with something better.

We’ll play a happy song to prove that they are wrong.

Poetry – Just Think

Just Think

If we put aside competition

For collaboration?

If we put aside division

For unity?

If we put aside hatred

For love?

If we put aside violence

For peace?

If we put aside exploitation

For partnership?

If we put aside control

For friendship?

If we put aside destruction

For construction?

If we put aside our fear of nature

For respect?

What a planet we could build!

Opher 2.5.2019

I often think of all the wasted time and energy that goes into policing, military protection, clearing up pollution, dealing with crime, caring for the injured after wars, trying to protect nature against wanton abuse, patching up damaged people and animals, fighting terrorism, fighting poverty.

What a waste.

All because some people want more than their share, some people want to impose their views on others, some people think they want an easy way.

What would the world be like if we all learnt to share, respect and get along?

Wouldn’t it be nice for everyone and everything?

22 August at 13:39  · A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you be so fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude 🙏

Poetry – Some Things Worth Fighting For

Some Things Worth Fighting For

Dreams and visions,

Ideas and feelings,

Memories, loves

And amorous dealings;

The beauty of a trillion creatures,

A spectacular planet with all its features;

Trees and flowers

Breath and stars,

Sunsets, moonlight

And cherished scars;

Friendship, loved ones,

Freedoms and truth,

Fairness, justice,

And the ultimate proof;

Compassion, tolerance

And humanity;

A better future

For you and me!

But one thing is true

And that’s for sure –

There is very little

Worth killing for!

Opher 9.1.2019

I think we should fight for what we believe with all our heart. We should battle and strive with passion.

But our battle is metaphoric – not physical.

There are many things worth fighting for.

Every day is a war, every arena a battlefield.

Gird your loins. Put down your guns.

Poetry – Experience

Experience

Experience is all there can ever be.

There is nothing more.

To taste every flavour,

See every hue,

Hear the melodies

And feel the touch of love.

There is nothing more.

Opher 29.11.2018

We are set loose in an infinite universe, adrift in a multitude of wonders. All we have to do is experience it, open ourselves to its possibilities and give vent to our appreciation.

Life is an unparalleled experience.

We are the culmination of 3 billion years of evolution.

What we are is a small step on the way but so much more than nothing.

With our limited senses we can explore, wonder and take pleasure.

There is nothing more.
