Back Home!!

We’ve just returned from a couple of weeks in Cornwall and Devon. It has been great. Meeting up with old friends, walking through fabulous countryside, visiting Neolithic sites, castles and places of beauty. Sharing food and drink. Reaffirming old friendships. Life affirming.

As you become older some things become more important. Friends that you have shared thoughts, ideas and experiences with are part of you. Friends that are no longer with us are still there in our hearts but their absence is felt.

Back home we are unpacking, picking up the pieces, weary but glowing. I’ll share some of the thoughts, photos and dreams of our roadtrip with you over the coming weeks. It’ll be nice unpacking them.

How much we change over the years. I’d love to meet with my young mad idealistic self. I sometimes catch glimpses.

Poetry – Take Heart

Take Heart

Take heart from the ones whose hearts are large,

Whose eyes see with soft glow

And whose hands caress and care.

For they are the ones who know

That they live within a mystery,

On a journey within wondrous lands

Where everything is a marvel

And everything has worth.

Take heart from those who see and care

And adore all that they behold

For they would build and love and feel

And so turn everything to gold.

Take heart from the ones who appreciate

That everything has its place

From sun, moon and mountain

To gnat, flea and worm.

We opened our eyes into a beautiful universe. We came from nothing and will return to nothing. In the meantime we have all this and we take it for granted. It is so wondrous.

There are those who can see that wonder all around us. Those are the ones we should take heart from. They are living.

There are those who would look to build, to make things better, to provide a pleasant word or helping hand. They are the ones we should take heart from. They are worth so much more than the mindless nasty types.

There are those who realise the incredible wonder of every living thing. They see the amazing wonder of our evolution and our place within the spectrum of life. We should take heart from them.

So here’s to the positive forces that live among us!

A bit of Love and humour for Saturday!

Poetry – Late at Night

Late at Night

Late at night

We cuddle up close

I slip my arm around you

And we share our warmth and softness.

Under the covers,

Secure within our cocoon,

While outside

The cold and dark

Are thwarted.

19.1.2018

The love and companionship of a long relationship where two people are secure with each other is bliss.

It is a place where wounds are healed, strength is returned and satisfaction is guaranteed.

Poetry – A Hand to Hold

A Hand to Hold

I wish you always have a hand to hold

When the road is rough

And shadows jump;

An arm around your shoulder

When the wind bites

And dreams of loss sting the eyes:

Tender words to raise your spirits

When doubt erodes your hopes

To maroon you on the rocks;

And a friendly heart to share the joy,

Provide the warmth,

And generate the love,

That makes it all worthwhile.

A Hand to Hold

It was the John Martyn song May You Always Have that inspired me to write this love song.

As we go through life we always need a partner, companion or friend to share the wonder and the rough times. Sharing makes everything better.

Poetry – Come so close that our blood and breath are one.

Come so close that our blood and breath are one.

Come so close that our blood and breath are one.

Share the moment of all time

As we melt into an ecstasy

That will consume our souls

With cool fire.

Come into my dreams until our lives are no longer ours

But a journey of shared wonder

In which we waft

Through green avenues

Of delight.

Come and synchronise your patterns with mine

Until we rise and fall

Through the same waves

On oceans of life.

Come and remove your skin and flesh

So that we touch

With depth and feeling

Far surpassing

The limits of our world.

Come and travel with me

Into a universe

Of amazement.

Lose yourself in me

And I will free myself in you

So close that we might touch the very stars.

Come my love

Come…. Come ………….Come.

Come so Close

This is an unabashed love poem. You can’t beat a love poem because love makes everything bright and new and endows our lives with hope.

To be in love raises all the senses to levels of excitement and floods the brain with endorphic ecstasy.

Nothing else matters.

What man could kill, maim or injure if he is truly in love? What a world we would inhabit if we could invent a love gun to blast the selfish into selflessness, the grimaces into smiles and hate to altruistic love.

What are the scientists playing at? Get building.

Poetry – Looking Forward

Looking Forward

I’m looking forward

With a good heart

And a wish,

To a day

When there is

A healthy dream.

I’m hoping

And breathing my wishes

Into the wind

With the desire

That they might

Bear fruit.

I’m in love

With the future,

With its ripe world

Of possibility,

In which all things

Are imaginable.

Hopes, dreams, desires, love

And wishes

Are all

I have to offer.

I crave

They are enough.

Opher – 13.5.2016

Looking forward

If we do not keep the hope alive then life is unbearable. We have to dream.

Somewhere in the future there has to be a life that is better than the one we live, a world that is fairer and less violent.

It is true.

If we measure ourselves against the past we see that we are not as cruel as we were. The bear-pits, and cock fights are gone. The brigands no longer pillage and rape. We no longer torture people to death or burn them at the stake. We have become more civilised.

The zeitgeist we build will be better. It is something to work for.

Before we destroy nature completely we may yet come to our senses.

Poetry – What Would You die for?

What Would You die for?

What would you die for?

What is worth your Life?

It’s your testimony.

Is it love or is it greed?

Is it the truth?

Or just baloney?

Is there a cause that is worthy?

That does not rust in the wind and rain?

Is there a praiseworthy belief

That charismatic leaders won’t flush down the drain?

Opher 22.3.2021

The deepest and most sincere beliefs are twisted out of shape by men with ulterior motives, who seek to use it to gain power, influence and wealth.

What dream is ever pure?

What philosophy can one base a life on that is not debased and sullied by grubby hands.

How much violence, fear and tyranny have been unleashed in the search for a better world?

How much blood is spilt by the well-meaning?

Whatever it is you believe, no matter how pure and beautiful, there is always someone who will twist it and use it against you to create something sullied, sordid and grotesque for their own ends.

Poetry – I sense love

I sense love

Let me look at you

And feast my eyes.

Let your voice

Warm my heart,

Smell your scent

On every breeze,

Feel you

In my dreams,

And taste

The love between us.

Opher 26.4.2016

I sense love

It may only be endorphins playing havoc with the brain but love overpowers all the senses, heightens and elevates everything.

Never is the world so full of colour, the flowers so full of scent, the bed so soft or the mood so raised.

Love does this.

If we could only live each day in love there would be no war or hate. It melts everything negative into its warmth.

It fills the dreams with sweetness. It encompasses the whole world and wraps it in a hug.

Love is the antidote.

May it last forever.
