Poetry – The Money Forest

The Money Forest

The Tories discovered a money forest

After disparaging Corbyn’s tree,

And wasted it on all their friends

Giving away money for free!

Opher – 25.11.2020

Oh how they attacked Corbyn for his unrealistic spending.

The money wasn’t there.

There was no money tree.

Corbyn dreamed of stimulating the economy so that it would grow and flourish producing prosperity for all.

The Tories are not interested in prosperity for all.

They want austerity for the poor and prosperity for the elite.

Money is wasted on the plebs.

Now the Virus and Brexit have created a crisis. They have discovered money coming out their ears.

They gave it out to their friends and cronies with lucrative contracts not put through tender – to firms that didn’t exist and firms that could not deliver.

Desperately trying to paper over the cracks of their poor planning.

The Cygnus report had pointed out the lack of supplies of PPE, the lack of ventilators and medical needs. They ignored it.

Brexit, Brexit, Brexit.

So when it came to it (the inevitable) we were caught out and wasted countless billions.

Now we’re in trouble.

Do we borrow, invest, grow and pay off the debt, now that borrowing is for free? Or do we make the poor heroes of the pandemic pick up the tab?

Do we plug the tax loopholes that enable the wealthy to pay no tax or do we cut the wages of public servants?

Let me see………………….. uhuh………Tory ideology.

Poetry – A slap in the face

A slap in the face

We risked our lives to teach your kids

To empty your bins and deliver your goods.

We cared for your elderly and worked in your shops.

We risked our lives until we were out of the woods.

One again we’re paying for government failure

For wasting billions on useless PPE,

For giving out contracts to all of their cronies;

For failure to plan for this virus properly.

Our reward for our efforts and the risks that we took

Is just a pat on the back and clap in the streets.

A drop in our income, an increase in our taxes

While the bankers are laughing with all the tax cheats.

We had ten years of austerity and now ten years more.

For the public servants they reserve their brutality.

We see Tory incompetence can be laid at their door.

For a government bereft of vision or morality.

Opher – 26.11.2020

They have clear choices.

They can borrow money at 0.2% interest. Given inflation that is money for free.

The cost of paying the national debt has actually gone down.

Never has such an opportunity existed. We can borrow and build like never before.

We can reward the workers who took all those risks and paid with their lives.

We can stimulate the economy, earn so much more and pay off the debts.

But no.

Tories hate the public servants and their xenophobia shines.

They chose to punish the poor and cut aid for the poorest instead of plugging tax loopholes for the wealthy!!

This is Tory ideology in practice – callous, vindictive and plain nasty!

Poetry – Cuts, Cuts, Cuts and More Cuts

Cuts, Cuts, Cuts and More Cuts

Health and education

Are looking mighty ripe.

Tories eye up the situation.

Unions may whinge and gripe.

While the government

Splash the cash to chums.

Those in public services

Know the reaper comes.

The bankers make a killing

Their profits rise and rise.

One man twenty one million

Just falling from the skies.

Phoney PPI and equipment

At inflated prices.

As friends of the Tories

Make fortunes out of crisis.

Morality does not exist

When there’s money to be made.

With bullying and dodgy deals

Their devious schemes are laid.

Tories apply their ideology

Without any ifs or buts.

Public servants know what that means

Cuts, cuts, cuts and more cuts.

Opher – 21.11.2020

So once again it is clear – it’s the poor who will pay for covid – just as it was the poor who paid for the bankers mistakes.

Are the wealthy being squeezed?? NO!!

Are the bonuses being reduced?? NO!!

Are the profits being reduced?? NO!!

Are the companies being taxed?? NO!!

No. No. No. No.

Some people, including people in government, like Rees-Mogg, are making a killing out of all this. They are laughing all the way to the bank. A lot of the people who have poured cash into the Tory party have made a fortune as contracts have been flooding their way – no tendering, no checks, inflated prices accepted without question, no quality control.

We’ll be paying for Brexit too!!

The dice are loaded!!

Clapped one week, crapped on the next!!

Key workers my arse!!

Is there an ideological three-pronged attack on Democracy in Britain?

Chartists Orgreave slave3

After a brief lull we find the new government bringing into being three major attacks on democracy:

  • There is proposed legislation on union opt-in funding that would severely reduce the Labour Party funding and effectively castrate the opposition.
  • There is proposed legislation on union strike action that would effectively rule out striking altogether (if parliament was elected on the same basis few MPs would ever be elected and the Tories certainly wouldn’t have a government).
  • There is a move to break up the BBC which, for all its faults, has been a bastion of unbiased reporting.

Are we looking at an era where, through ideological legislation, we are looking at a one party State?

Are we looking at legislation that will make the unions impotent so that businesses can drive up profits at the expense of workers conditions and pay?

Are we looking at the control of the news by big business corporations who can spin it to suit themselves?

A democracy can only survive when there is unbiased information and a fair voting system, where workers have the right to withdraw labour and demand fair treatment.

Are we looking at the end of any pretence at democracy?
