Poetry – Death of the Innocents

Death of the Innocents

I screamed in the basement

As the bombs rained down.

Seven years of age

When buried in the ground.

I scurried down the road

As the bullets flew.

A soldier took aim

So I never grew.

They blow women and children

To shreds and to gore

So they can make profit

From destruction and war.

They’re selling missiles to tyrants

And power-mad fanatics.

Justifying the sale

With mental acrobatics.

They are madmen and worse

Who are running the world;

Creating a rampage

That can never be quelled.

It’s all fear and terror

In the hearts of the ravaged,

From cruelty and sadism

In the hearts of the savage.

We humans are engaged

With a great killing spree

And won’t be satisfied

Til the world’s on its knees!

Opher – 8.7.2019

Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, Nigeria, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Everywhere you look you see the hardness of eyes, the fanaticism and the barbarity of humans.

It’s time we put a stop to this massacre of the innocents!

A leaked document has revealed which Conservative MPs and Peers funnelled companies through a ‘VIP lane’ for lucrative PPE contracts, without competition.

The Good Law Project

A leaked document has revealed which Conservative MPs and Peers funnelled companies through a ‘VIP lane’ for lucrative PPE contracts, without competition. A staggering £1.6 billion worth of contracts were awarded as a result of referrals from just ten politicians at the heart of the Conservative party. The leaked list of the 47 companies in the VIP lane, first seen by Politico, can be found here. Michael Gove MP, Matt Hancock MP, Esther McVey MP, and Steve Brine MP are among the Conservative politicians who referred companies to the VIP lane. Those lucky enough to receive this VIP treatment were more than ten times more likely to win a contract than companies that went without. Government claimed that the VIP lane for PPE contracts “was widely advertised across Government as a way of more quickly triaging offers of support”. But the explosive list of companies in the ‘VIP lane’ shows that no other political party successfully referred companies via this fast-tracked route. Some of the VIP lane companies have close links with Conservative party politicians. Take PPE Medpro. The company was founded by the former business associate of Conservative Peer Baroness Mone. It won two huge contracts, worth £200 million, just weeks after it was set up.A lawyer for Baroness Mone previously claimed that she hadn’t “had any role or function in the company, or in the process by which the contracts were awarded”. The leaked information does suggest, however, that she was the source of the referral of PPE Medpro to the VIP lane. Good Law Project has been battling for months to learn the identities of the lucky beneficiaries of the VIP sweepstake. It’s not hard to see why the Government wanted to keep things under wraps, given these new details, including: Michael Gove referred Meller Designs, the firm of Conservative donor David Meller, to the VIP lane. The company subsequently landed over £160 million in PPE deals. Lord Feldman referred SG Recruitment to the VIP lane. The Conservative Peer Lord Chadlington sits on the Board of its parent company, Sumner Group Holdings Limited. They landed £50 million in PPE contracts. Dominic Cummings is named as the referrer of Global United Trading. The company landed a £350k PPE contract. Michael Gove claimed there was “no evidence” of cronyism when it came to Covid procurement. That feels like a pretty punchy claim given these shocking revelations which lay bare the huge financial advantages of having a Tory looking out for your interests. There are doubtless more stories to come, as we pore over the details of the lucky beneficiaries of this red carpet to riches. We will keep you updated.

The Corona Diaries – Day 601

Met up with friends for a meal today. Good to chat and share a meal and a beer – just like old times.

It meant that I did not have any time to take my usual walk. I stayed in wrote my Captain Beefheart book and played some Elvis Costello. All very pleasant.

Meanwhile, out in Coronaland the mountain of sleaze is beginning to topple. The amount these profiteers have been pulling in is astounding. They are using their platform of public office to ‘earn’ millions and then leaving to walk into massively lucrative posts!! The extent of the sleaze is unbelievable.

It seems that running the country is a part-time job and £81,932 is peanuts. On top of that, they receive around £61,000 worth of rent and expenses. That amounts to £143,000 for the job of an MP. Of course, a Cabinet Minister receives more!!

Most people would find an income of £143,000 quite reasonable. Over four times that of a nurse!! But for many MPs, this is merely the appetiser. The real income comes from other sources – lobbying, advisory roles and such.

One has to ask what it is that a company expects back in return when they are paying hundreds of thousands for a few hours ‘work’??? They don’t do things for nothing.

Then, after these MPs leave over half of them walk into an incredibly lucrative role in companies related to what they were doing in government. Osborne was telling Blackrock how to avoid paying millions in tax – coaching them on tax loopholes. Sounds treasonous to me. Cameron was using all his contacts to lobby parliament to get contracts and deals. These people are earning millions.

Surely, running the country should be a full-time job!

Surely, it is wrong to be earning vast sums of money for lobbying or advisory work?? Particularly if that is at the expense of the country!!

Surely, it is wrong to use the knowledge gathered in public service to gain a role after one’s left? Particularly if that undermines the public?

How many backhanders, bribes and promises are being many to MPs???

How were untendered contracts awarded???

Stinks!!!!

This government is up to its neck in sleaze. There’s more coming out every day!!!

So, yesterday in Coronaland, we had another 39,270 new cases with 47 deaths. That certainly doesn’t sound much like it’s going down to me!! The continent is locking down again. Our stupid clown of a PM is talking about another wave of covid washing up on our shores from Europe when our current rates are twice as high as the other countries locking down! It’s probably our wave washing up on their shores!!

Some of those countries are locking down the unvaccinated.

Johnson’s answer to the high rates is to tell people to go and get a booster jab!! It’s not enough!! Nowhere near!!

Why aren’t they appearing regularly to give out advice?? Why aren’t they setting examples??? Mask wearing. Social distancing. Avoiding contacts. Ventilation. It’s not rocket science!

Why aren’t they on the TV countering all the stupid conspiracy theories, countering the antivaxxer stories??

Is it because they are too stupid? They don’t understand the science?? They can’t do simple maths?? They can’t be trusted to speak??

Or is it that they can’t be bothered?? That they really want people to catch it?? That herd immunity is the secret goal??

Where’s the honesty??

Is it all incompetence or something more sinister??

So stay safe!! Remember they need you to pay more tax so they can spaff it up the wall!!

Tory Sleaze – A litany of corruption and incompetence costing us a fortune!!

It is endless. They have been feeding the wealthy Tory Donors while starving the poor. They are not even good at what they are doing!!

A Butcher Bird having lunch – Australia – South West Rocks.

I caught sight of this butcher bird with a large grasshopper that it proceeded to devour.

Australia – South West Rocks – exploring the coves.

On our first day we set off for a walk around to get a handle on the area. The coastline had a number of coves with sandy beaches. Kangaroos resting in among the vegetation, birds and incredible Australian flowers.

A mob of kangaroos at South West Rocks.

We set off on a walk and immediately came across a mob of kangaroos. They were quite relaxed though the big male watched us intently. A mother had a big baby in her pouch. Great to see.
