LEC at the Adelphi – The Sonic Beams Pulsed!!

There was a Psychedelic explosion in Hull on Thursday night! I thought Putin had decided to turn us to a cinder. It turned out to be Rich and Lou’s Loudhailer Electric Company with their new drummer Mark. By heck they exploded!

What a treat! Mark added a heavy, rocky beat with room for Jeff’s amazing guitarwork, Lou’s powerful bass and Rich’s guitar to flourish. This was more ballsy!

Right from the off, with the dramatic new number, set opener, that they borrowed from Celt Arabia we knew we were in for a treat!

The band motored!! The beat pounded! The guitar wailed.

There were no dead fingers talking on Jeff’s guitar – all juicy notes and flowing sound!

Rich got so carried away with the melding of the band that he actually got down in the audience and danced!!

This was heavy psychedelic sound that pulsed with some big-eyed beans from Venus!!

Today’s music to keep me IiiINNnnsssaaAAnNNNnEEe – The Byrds – 8 Miles High

For a short while the Byrds were right at the forefront of psychedelic Rock. Then came Gram Parsons and wrecked it.

My Favourite Psychedelic Progress Rock Bands of the sixties

Progressive and Psychedelic really took off in the sixties. It was all mixed up in a great explosion of creativity. Those were the days when you could go and see anything for 25p and there were lots of free concerts and festivals. A festival would set you back £1.25p.

I saw everyone many times. It was heaven.

Here are some of my favourites:

Jimi Hendrix

Tomorrow

Traffic

Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac

Pink Floyd

Arthur Brown

Incredible String Band

Pretty Things

Beatles

Nice

Cream

Dantalian’s Chariot

Rolling Stones

Family

New Animals

Jeff Beck

Yardbirds

Soft Machine

Moody Blues

Procol Harum

I bet I’ve missed a few off here!!

Loudhailer Electric Company at O’Rileys in Hull

The spirits of Syd Barrett and Grace Slick were seen cavorting through the light show at O’Rileys as Loudhailer Electric Company went through their repertoire of Psychedelic sounds. Geoff’s guitar was heard to make all manner of mesmerising notes.

They go from strength to strength – a tight unit blending poetic lyrics, performance and great, highly original, psychedelic music. They go from mood to mood with mesmerises sounds and storming crescendos. Fabulous.

Loudhailer Electric Company at O’Riley’s – Photos and review

Loudhailer Electric are brilliant. Their brand of energetic Psychedelia is scintillating. They were reduced to a quartet for this gig and although the electric violin is great it wasn’t missed too much because the band and the sound were superb.

They sparkled as Jeff’s electric guitar sounds wafted, Lou’s bass and vocals stormed, Rich’s rhythm guitar is just getting better and better and Rich on drums was setting the pace. Rich’s vocal and egg were also spot on. The band is going from strength to strength and just gets better every time I see them.

This was a cracking set. The sound system at O’Rileys sounded really good. Altogether a great gig.

OK – I think this MP3 of the radio show has loaded up. I’ve played a bit of it. It seems to have recorded alright.

I would greatly like to know what you think of it. It’s taken us a lot of doing but it was fun.

What did you think? Hope you enjoyed it!

What should be our next one?
