Positive vibes – The Day We Saved The World.

I just thought this needed another airing because it has such a positivity!

The Day We Saved The World

The day we saved the world

There was cheering in Kabul

Girls in their summer dresses

Free with their noblesses,

Smiles and laughter

In the rubble of Ukraine

Hugs and handshakes in the rain.

Milkshakes and ice cream in Sudan

Not a sign of desperate Dan.

All the Ayatollahs threw off their robes

Shaved their beards and danced.

The Pope sold art from the Vatican

A billion lives enhanced.

Trump destroyed his missiles

Threw a party at the Capitol.

Putin dismantled all his submarines

And that was not all.

The day we saved the world.

The day we saved the world

Musk and Gates fed all the little kids

And moved into a semi

Starmer kissed Thera May

And danced all night with Kemi.

ISIS fighters drank and sang

And everyone was pissed.

Evangelists embraced

Not a soul was missed.

The Ku Klux Klan cuddled babies

A new vaccine against rabies.

No-one ever caught the scabies

The day we saved the world.

There was love-making in the streets

Laughter in the bible belt

Waves of ecstasy were felt.

Sharing all across the planet

No-one had to plan it.

Every creature was revered

Every eye was teared.

All nature no longer alarmed.

As not a hair was harmed.

Every tree was sacred.

Everyone a star.

Nobody tried to make a killing.

Everyone was willing.

Playing tunes on their guitar.

The day we saved the world.

The day we saved the world.

The dawning of a new era.

Nothing could be clearer.

Everybody reborn.

Everybody happy

Nobody left forlorn.

No shit in any nappy.

Plenty food to eat

New friends to meet.

Joy and laughter in the air

All one lovely people

With everything to share.

We disinvented politics.

Unimagined all religion

Worshipped every type of life

From spider to pigeon.

From there on it was perfect

No family subject to neglect.

The day we saved the world.

Opher – 6.1.2024

I stole the title from Ian Dury. I’m reading one of his biographies. He was talking about the rhythm of words and had this as a starting title. I like to think there are shades of Dury in my words. It’s a kind of reasons to be cheerful.

You know, things could have been so much different. If only the gentle and kind ruled the world instead of the violent and greedy.

Just think.

I am a committed Pluralist! This is what I mean.

world-in-our-hands

I hope anyone who follows my blog will understand what I mean by pluralism. There are many definitions of the word.

What I believe by pluralism is that a society/community can thrive while its members believe in different philosophies, religions, political views, and have different cultural backgrounds. I believe variety brings richness. I believe hybrids are stronger than pedigrees.

That means that as a left-wing antitheist I am happy living with people of all different, races, cultures and religions.

However, I believe that this is only possible if the members of that community adhere to a certain over-riding ethos. For me that ethos is one of tolerance, freedom, equality, democracy, empathy, compassion and respect.

I do not tolerate racism, misogyny, homophobia, or violence.

I believe that pluralism is the counter to fascism and fundamentalism. I also believe that education is the best weapon of all. If it is deployed properly it raises humanity to new levels of compassion and empathy.

My message is – Be nice to each other – build a positive Zeitgeist – look after the planet and all life that exists on it.

Poetry – Infinity 6 – Breaking infinity into bits

IMG_5916

I’m finding it interesting to go through this old book of mine. Reality Dreams was started in 1971. I wrote these short poems on infinity that I interspersed through the other writing and drawing. The idea was to create a collage, a literary and visual exploration of reality with story, anecdotes and surreal dimensions. It was all very sixties-ish.

This is the sixth section.

Infinity 6 – Another piece of infinity

I am missing from the politicians mouth

I am absent from all factories

I am the ambiguity in the machine

I am the greatness in the peace of the countryside

The green leaves and rolling hills

I am that falling leaf

I am the miracle of breath

I am the reawakening from sleep

My lust is growth

I am the endless riddle of all time

I am the dizzy height

But to you I am the distortion

Sometimes in amongst all the terrible things going on – beheadings, hatred, terrorism, rampant capitalism, trials, abject poverty, overpopulation and environmental degradation, we lose sight of the great things people are doing.

Out there, right now, are a set of saints pulling out all the stops to make things better.

I salute them.

The health workers dealing with Ebola who put themselves at risk

The aid workers helping the refugees

The reporters trying to tell us what is going on in the war zones

The nurses, doctors and orderlies dealing with the sick and dying in the most deprived parts of the world, in our inner cities

The psychologists trying to comfort and rebuild the lives of the tortured, bereaved and traumatised

The people going out of their way to do kind things, help, give, smile, cuddle and love.

The mediators and peace makers

Those who forgive

The creators of beauty

The environmentalists fighting to save a forest, a tree, a species, a single insect.

Those who give sanctuary to an animal or family

Those who succour and care

Those who give more than they can afford

The educators who are building a better future through knowledge, truth and understanding

These are the heroes! These are the people who deserve medals! These are the people who make life worth living!

Fascism and fanaticism are killed by education and good deeds – not bombs! Help build a better zeitgeist!

So who did I miss out who is deserving of our thanks?
