Newgrange – Ireland – A BBC recording of the Winter Solstice!!

The sun is returning! Time to celebrate!

Posted on  by Opher

The fabulous Newgrange was a Neolithic tomb dating back 5000 years – before Stonehenge and the Pyramids.

This broadcast tells the story as the shaft of light hits the inner chamber on the Solstice.

The Monolith at Rudston

In the churchyard at Rudston, there is a massive neolithic monolith, supposedly the largest in the whole of Britain. It is as much underground as it is over! How they got this massive rock into place is incredible to think.

I bet there was a stone circle where the church is now. The Christians had a habit of desecrating pagan sites.

I love to connect with ancient Neolithic sites. They resonate. Shame about the church.

Cornwall, tin mining and the Neolithic.

Cornwall has a raw beauty!!

Men an Tol – Neolithic fertility stones – Cornwall

This rare type of Neolithic site is thought to be a fertility site. The circular stone in the centre is unique. It is thought that couples who wish for pregnancy should pass through the circle. I think, down the ages, many a couple have done a bit more than simply passing through.

Beautiful nature in Scotland – Stone circles, Celtic carved stones and waterlily pads.

Back to nature and back to the neolithic.

The Orkneys – Neolithic Burial Mounds

There is something mysterious about the old stone circles, standing stones and burial chambers. They not only connect me to ancestors who lived extremely different lives, long ago, they have an energy.

There they are. In the middle of nowhere. Structures that would have taken huge efforts from the small populations that lived there. Artefacts that are still impressive thousands of years later.

Neolithic Scotland – burial mounds, standing stones and circles.

I am very attracted to Neolithic sites. They fill me with wonder. I can imagine the power as thousands of years ago our ancestors met up to perform their rites. These mounds, tombs, and spiritual sites still contain some of their magic.

Neolithic Sites in Cornwall – Photos

Whenever I stand in a stone circle or see monoliths or standing stones I am transported. They have some strange resonance, a connection to the past.

It feels like I’m connected.

My ancestors used to gather in these places and perform all manner of rituals. They were powerful places.

Those religions are long gone but the mystical, spiritual connection still feels powerful to me.

Photography – Neolithic sites in Cornwall

When down in Cornwall we made our way round the Neolithic sites. I’m drawn to stones, trees, seas and ancient stone-circles and tombs. There’s some connection. It’s good to touch base with your ancestors once in a while!

Here’s a few photos.
