A thought for tomorrow

Some of these are very good.

Too often we are hard on ourselves.Life can be loving or brutal all at once. I subscribe to a lot of healing and health pages on social networking sites to increase the positivity at the images I look at. Here are some amazing ones I came across today.

Always remember you are your own best friend.
Take care and goodnight.

Why is a good education important?

Why is a good education important?

Education is truly the most powerful weapon in human armoury.
Education is about relationship. A good relationship is one that enables students to think and evaluate. A bad education is one based on ‘facts’ and indoctrination.
Every child should receive a good education that stimulates their minds and enables them to soar.

I think, therefore I exist.

Is it really important to go to school? To read endless theoretical dull texts? How often do we get the feeling we don’t need to know what we are learning and immediately forget it after the tests?

Does learning things make me happier?

Yes. But not immediately.

It may seem, at first sight, rather contradictory: knowledge is so many times the cause of great distress, yet an ignorant life appeals to no one. It is true that knowledge comes with a disturbing counterpart: our mind, once carefree and lax is progressively filled with complicated concerns and questions. To be disturbed is not necessarily a negative thing, though, as these concerns and questions are what will guide our choices and actions and turn us into more conscious, independent individuals. Before a change has to be a moment of rupture and therefore before our growth a lot of these…

Poetry – Life

Life

Basking in the sun in the goldilocks zone

Dancing between the stars all on our own.

Uniquely living on a rock that has given us life –

A green haven on which life is rife.

But do we value what we have in this place of wonder?

Or do we continue to destroy, to rape and plunder?

We’re spinning around on a great green ball

That seems to have it all

While for many

It’s too dismal.

Basking in the sun in the goldilocks zone

Dancing between the stars all on our own.

The Corona Diaries – Day 2

Today I have finally stopped believing anything coming out about Corona.

There is no honesty. The statistics are rubbish. We can see quite clearly that they are not testing enough. People with illness are being told to stay home but not being tested. How can they know how many people have it?

Many people will be spreading the disease but will be asymptomatic.

The government policy seems to be to allow the population to get the disease while advising those at risk – the elderly and those with underlying health issues (a vague term) – to self-isolate.

There is all this talk of herd immunity. Not much good if you are one of those who has a bad immune reaction.

One is left wondering if we are among those who would have a dramatic immune response???

Apart from hand washing and keeping distance from other people there is little advice.

Supposedly there is only one person in the area with the disease. That’s rubbish. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands. Nobody is being tested.

I just went to the supermarket – a number of things in very short supply. People keeping their distance. Hand washing is followed on return.

Not dead yet!! Who knows??

A typical British response to Corona Virus.

The Arrogance of Human Beings – Awe and Wonder of life

The Arrogance of Human Beings – Awe and Wonder of life

We are microbes on the surface of a small planet.

Our planet orbits around a small, insignificant star – Sol.

Our star is out in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy – not even near the middle.

There are 400 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is a mere 100,000 light years across. (It would take light 100,000 years to get from one side to the other!)

The biggest galaxies are 2 million light years across – hugely bigger – with 10 trillion stars. They make ours look tiny.

We know of 2 trillion galaxies so far.

The distances between them are beyond our comprehension. The universe is 46 Billion light years from the centre to the expanding edge.

Yet human beings, with our tiny brains, think we can understand something as stupendous as this. We can work out where it came from, its laws and its future. What a remarkable arrogance.

It is the equivalent of bacteria living in your toilet for brief seconds thinking they can work out the nature of the backside lowering itself into position.

The fact that we have worked out so much is amazing! Science is stupendous and exciting.

For those fundamentalists of all religions who think that god created all this for the sake of us little bacteria on this insignificant planet – I find your belief ludicrous. That is the height of arrogance and super-inflated egos.

The universe is a wondrous, mystical place. The one thing I’m certain of is that it wasn’t created for us. We have a brief lifetime in which to be astounded by it and enjoy it. How lucky we are.

Meet on the Ledge and Who Knows Where the Time Goes?- Fairport Convention – For Dennis

Meet on the Ledge and Who Knows Where the Time Goes?- Fairport Convention – For Dennis

I put this up here for Dennis. Three years ago I went to Dennis’s funeral – only three years after we went to the funeral of his wife Frances. He chose these songs and I shall always associate them with him.

Too many friends gone. Too many blown off the mountainside. The time goes too quickly.

Meet on the Ledge – Richard Thompson/Fairport Convention

We used to say
That come the day
We’d all be making songs
Or finding better words
These ideas never lasted long
The way is up
Along the road
The air is growing thin
Too many friends who tried
Were blown off this mountain with the wind
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
When my time is up I’m gonna see all my friends
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
If you really mean it, it all comes round again
Yet now I see
I’m all alone
But that’s the only way to be
You’ll have your chance again
Then you can do the work for me
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
When my time is up I’m gonna see all my friends
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
If you really mean it, it all comes round again
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
When my time is up I’m gonna see all my friends
Meet on the ledge
We’re gonna meet on the ledge
If you really mean it, it all comes round again

Who Knows Where the Time Goes?

Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it’s time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming
I have no thought of time

For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving
Ah, but then you know it’s time for them to go
But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving
I do not count the time

For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

And I am not alone while my love is near me
I know it will be so until it’s time to go
So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again
I have no fear of time

For who knows how my love grows?
And who knows where the time goes?

Field of Dreams

I have a notebook in which I scribble my ideas and projects. I am constantly scribbling.

I used to worry that I might run out of ideas but I never seem to. They constantly pour forth so that I have trouble keeping up. That is good because I get bored easily. I like to have a number of projects on the go just as I like to have three or four books to read simultaneously. I am grateful to have so many ideas. Though it makes no sense in terms of progressing my art into a commercial form.

My friends and family become frustrated. They feel that I should focus on one project at a time and finish that before moving on. They think I should spend time marketing and seeking but that is not my way. I get bored. I have to unload my head. If I do not grab the ideas as they pass they wriggle away and are lost. It is more important to harvest them than market them. That is where the joy is.

There is nothing more fulfilling than having a head full of dreams and visions and having a creative outlet to give them life.

Field of dreams

In my field of dreams it is harvest time.

Ideas hang in bunches on the branches

Of my imaginary trees

And ferment in hope.

They will be gathered with love

And distilled to golden spirits

That exude the flavour of great pleasure.

For every day is a harvest festival –

A celebration of abundance.

The more I gather

The more that grow

Until I am overwhelmed

With the joys

Of my creations.

Donal Trump – the post tortoise. Humour

While stitching a cut on the hand of a 75 year old farmer, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Donald Trump and his role as President.

The old farmer said, ” Well, as I see it, Donald Trump is like a ‘Post Tortoise’.”

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post tortoise’ was.

The old farmer said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a tortoise balanced on top, that’s a post tortoise.”

The old farmer saw the puzzled look on the doctor’s face so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he’s up there, he’s elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with.”

Three Quotes of worth

Three Quotes of worth

Quote 1 – Roy Harper – In some ways, I lament the introduction of civilisation on such a huge scale, because it has given us a lot of room to abuse each other, which we continue to do.

Quote 2 – Captain Beefheart – We’re all colored, or you wouldn’t be able to see anyone.

Quote 3 – Frank Zappa – There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the universe, and it has a longer shelf life.

Well that will do for starters. Three of my favourite people.
