I think the last time I saw Chris Spedding play was forty years ago back when he was doing all that great guitar with Trigger – Roy Harper’s great band that produced the superb HQ album.
That couldn’t have been much after I first saw Sharks. I loved them forty years ago and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect this time around. I had never expected to see them perform again. What we got was brilliant. They were as good as ever.
Snips is certainly a frontman. He knows how to work a crowd and with his orange hair sure makes a statement. He has all the stagecraft and moves and his voice is still just as good as ever.
Chris Speddings guitarwork needs no introduction – always superb. He might be 73 but he’s no slouch with that guitar.
The band was well augmented by two young guys on bass and drums who brilliantly laid down the foundation for Snips and Chris to work off. The band rocked.
They went through a pile of their old material, a few new ones plus a few covers. All Along The Watchtower, Hey Joe and The Last Time all got a Sharks make-over and good it was too.
Another great gig in Hull. Another great venue in Fruit. Another night to remember.
