If there is nothing to hold it all together it falls apart into factions, warlords and nutty extremists. Religious extremes, fear, hate and warring factions.
Not a pleasant place to be.
Populists are playing a dangerous game for their own ends. They undermine everything and set themselves up as the only saviours. When their flimsy intrigues are revealed as lies there is nothing left to fall back on.
When a society collapses into chaos the result is a lawless horror.

It is very scary to see the result of Trump’s undermining of experts and scientists. It throws into a world of superstition, mad speculation, absurd conspiracy and opens us up to abuse.
Every nutcase in the world is pumping out propaganda to snag the gullible fools.

It’s like we have entered a new dark age of superstition and ignorance. It’s as if the enlightenment never happened.
Or is it just that the ignorant and superstitious have always been there but Trump has energised and activated them?
Is ignorance contagious?
This systematic undermining of science, experts and demonising of politicians has taken things to a new level.
I’m cynical about politicians and even science, but at least it’s better than anarchy and religion. There is a sound basis to science. It’s provable.
There is no basis to these conspiracy theories.
We live in dangerous times.
I will tell you the truth.

Everyone has a vested interest in a version of the truth.
They all want to fool us.
To manipulate us,
To convince us that they are right.
None of them are right.
Some believe they are right.
Some are sure they are right.
The truth is that we do not know what is right;
Nobody can be sure of anything;
We are all guessing.
Beware the people who believe they are certain.
They are the ones to be concerned about.
Some of them are very dangerous.
Many do not care about the truth.
They simply believe what they are told
Without question;
They accept that it is the truth.
Some manufacture their own truth.
They create stories, exaggerations, perspectives,
In order to control us.
For them the truth is malleable.
They think we are stupid
And will believe anything.
They feed us lies.
Once, long ago, I thought I knew the truth.
I was naïve.
All I understood was opinion.
I had not experienced how complex life was
Or how devious and cynical people could be.
I now know that everything is uncertain.

We live in a world of fake news.
People are telling us they know the truth – the politicians, the religious leaders.
They know nothing.
Some believe what they are told in textbooks, in tabloids, on TV, in broadsheets or on the internet.
The information is always from people trying to sell you something.
I don’t want what they’ve got to sell.
They are selling you a version of themselves. They want you to believe. They want you to do what you are told. They do not want you to think.
The truth is that nobody knows.
The cornerstone of Populism as espoused by Trump, Johnson and Bolsonaro.
The premise being that experts always get it wrong, are politically motivated (or bought off) and cannot be trusted.
The inference being that it is better to place your faith in populist leaders – who know what they are talking about (such as – there is no global warming, we can keep drilling and digging, chop down all the forests, drink bleach and bombard your body with UV light – get back to work).
The reality being that the average idiot on the street drinks bleach, thinks that covid is a conspiracy or caused by 5G, that masks and distancing are a commie plot, global warming is an elitist plot, that appointing a billionaire leader is a strike against elitism, that the UN is a conspiracy, that the holocaust never happened and the earth is really flat.
They would rather believe the propaganda put out on the internet and conspiracy rather than science.
So it makes more sense to believe that the world is being run by alien lizards who eat babies and Bill Gates is implanting microchips through vaccines than to listen to scientists telling us that climate change is going to cause catastrophe for both us and other life on this planet, that the only way out of this pandemic is through vaccination and we have to stop using fossil fuels.
