Poetry – Every Vote counts

Every Vote counts

‘We want the law to be used in the proper manner!’

‘So stop counting the votes!’

‘They are stealing my presidency!’

‘It’s not fair.’

‘I’ll set the Supreme Court on you,

If you try to steal my residency!’

Every vote counts.

No vote will be uncounted.

It takes time.

There are problems to be surmounted.

‘I’ve loaded the court

With a bunch of my friends.

They’ll sort it out for me.

I’m sure they’ll make amends.’

‘I won’t allow the people

To take it away from me!’

‘It’s not fair!

‘I’m spitting out my dummy!’

Opher – 4.11.2020

We’ve seen the usual petulant display – unworthy of a man in his position. We’ve heard the false claims and lies. We’ve witnessed him again stirring up division and hate for his own ends.

The real fraud would be if he managed to stop the states from counting every vote. That would be stealing an election!

And he has still failed.

He is behaving like the spoilt rich child he really is.

Someone put his dummy (pacifier) back in!

Anecdote – Republicans and Democrats – the view from outside.

Republicans and Democrats – the view from outside

As an Englishman with no vested interest in the US Presidential elections (other from the fact that I’m likely to get blown to bits as a direct result of American foreign policy) I feel that I have a more objective view of what is going on.

From my perspective – this is how I see it:

Both the Democrats and Republicans support the same ludicrous capitalist model that, in my view, is responsible for the vast degree of inequality, overpopulation, war, mass migration and relentless destruction of the planet. So, on that score there is no difference between them. They both support Big Business, and the corporate multinationals whose mantra is growth, profit at all costs and to hell with the consequences – the huge corporations who would rather pay an army of lawyers than clean up their act – the companies who lie, bribe and cheat to avoid taxes and cut corners at every opportunity – the companies who pay their executives obscene wages while keeping their other employees on subsistence salaries. These multinationals like poverty, war and disorder because they can exploit it for profit.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are supported and controlled by Big Business. Nobody can be elected without that backing. Those unscrupulous businesses pull the strings on policy. In that sense there is nothing to choose between the two political parties.

But then we get down to the differences:

The Republican Party

They come over as a bunch of rabid gun-toting fascists (who believe we should arm our children to protect them from violence). A coalition of the Tea Party nutcases, insane religious fundamentalists, illiterate uneducated hicks, racist xenophobes and Gung-ho John Wayne patriots who believe that the answer to everything is to blow the hell out of it. They see things in black and white. The ‘haves’ deserve their wealth and those living under bridges are there because that’s what they deserve too. There is no compassion. They are typified by Donal Trump.

They are scary. They are also hopelessly wrong. America has not won a war since 1945. They have been kicked out of Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq and Afghanistan. What they have achieved is:

  • To make a fortune for various Big Business groups involved in manufacturing arms, security and rebuilding destroyed cities
  • Destabilising the world and making it into a vast war-zone and terrorist training ground

Gung-ho simply does not work. It is stupid. It is the mentality of the swaggering drunk in the bar picking fights and getting his arse kicked.

The Democrats

They come over as more inclusive and caring. They want greater social cohesion and fairness. They want a sensible gun control to reduce the terrible death rate. They want a medical health service for all people that is cheaper and inclusive. They want equality on racial and religious grounds. They want more liberal views on abortion, women’s rights and sexuality.

They are less extreme and not so full of nationalistic rhetoric and bombastic prejudice.

Verdict

When it comes to a choice between the lesser of two evils I think the verdict is clear – we all would be safer and better off with the Democrats.

Whoever gets in is still going to be supporting the business model that is destroying the world. They are both part of the establishment machine.

Something needs to change!
