Bogged down, huge casualties, tanks blown up, planes shot down, blowing up hospitals and schools, killing civilians, war crimes, spreading lies, misinformation and conspiracy as bad as Trump, losing Generals.

And our contribution? All mouth as usual. Named a few oligarchs (less than anyone), given them plenty of warning to get out, taken their money, and doing as little as possible to help Ukrainian refugees! Doesn’t it make you feel ashamed?

What will happen now?? Escalation? Nuclear war? Chemical war? Or capitulation??

I reckon a face-saving compromise!!

My existence is questionable.

                In a few billion years

                                No evidence will exist;

No bones,

                No fossils,

                                Not even an impression.

Nothing of my life

                Will be remembered

No word

                Of any poem

                                Remain.

Not even a whisper in the wind.

Every atom

                That ever sang in my blood

                                Sent a shock through my brain

Or supported me against the force of gravity

Will be free.

Some of me

                Will find its way to stars

                                To explode through galaxies.

Some of my atoms

                Might even incorporate themselves

                                Into another sentient being.

How pointless everything really is. How inconsequential.

All our little lives, trivial pursuits, matters of life and death, war and power struggles, wealth and greed. Even the destruction of the entire planet is trivial compared to the immensity of the universe. Our whole galaxy is but a pinprick, a tiny speck.

All our gods, palaces, castles and cathedrals are worthless and insignificant.

Our thoughts, dreams, hopes and aspirations, our fears, worries, anxieties and traumas, our pleasures and pains – all melt into oblivion when death claims our memories.

Yet atoms are perpetual. That is marvellous!

Has the world ever been without war? I don’t think so. It’s an endless cycle.

Just because it has been in Chechnya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Myanmar, Eritrea, has meant that we can gloss over it, but it has never gone away.

The powerful elite, or those aspiring, have been vying to control, suppress, oppress and exert.

Through politics, religion and the promise of social change and justice, there are always those who will rouse others, or direct their followers towards violence.

We’ve never know peace.

The powerful and wealthy seek more power, more control and more wealth.

They’ll never have enough.

Penetrating brains

                Tiny tendrils

                                Of invisible roots.

Establishing a network

                Of fear

                                To be set in concrete;

A mesh of terror

                Frozen

                                Into circuitry

A compacted image

                Of horror

                                That can never go away.

Every explosion,

                Every death,

                                Every word,

                                                Spurt of blood,

An electric shock

                Searing minds

The UN Vote – 141 countries condemn Russia’s evil war!! Time for action!!

This clearly shows the need for the United Nations. It is the moral compass of the world.

141 nations voted in favour of a UN General Assembly motion condemning the invasion of Ukraine, while just five – Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Syria and Russia – opposed it

Well, Belarus and Russia would, wouldn’t they? They are the evil bastards invading Ukraine. Syria owes its survival on Russian intervention. It’s where they practised reducing cities to rubble and blowing up women and children (after doing the same in Chechnia). Eritrea and North Korea are both repugnant tyrannies run by evil dictators who are quite at home with treating their own people with callous cruelty. For them to vote against violence would be hypocritical.

35 abstained!! Of those China and India were two main players. China, because of this weird alliance of communist states against the West and India because, stupidly it has got itself heavily reliant on Russian military hardware (perhaps the poor reliability of the Russian equipment will indicate to them that this is a big mistake).

It is interesting to see the alliances, dependencies and evil so graphically displayed in numbers!!

What is really needed now is for the UN to have teeth. Having had such a vote it would be good if the UN were now able to step in, put a halt to the fighting and apply sanctions to Russia.

I want a world with more scrutiny and accountability. The architects of this war need hauling up in front of the world’s court and prosecuted for their actions.

If Putin and his Generals were made to pay for their actions we might see steps taken against the other warmongers from Iran, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Nigeria and the rest.

We’re getting close to having the means.
