Java – Arriving at the most amazing Borobudur Temple

The most incredible temple complex rivals Angkor Wat and Macchu Picchu. It used to stand in the middle of a lake. It’s huge.

Another dead religion that people believed in and died for.

Cambodia – From Angkor Wat to the Lake and lunch.

The fishermen were out on the lake fishing. The Restaurant (which was a wooden hut) served very fresh fish – delicious!!

Chinese Buddhist Temple in Shanghai – Photos

In amongst all the modern skyscrapers and polluted air we stumbled on an ancient Buddhist temple. I was very taken with the surreal wall of psychedelic Buddhas in among the clouds.

Thailand – Phuket – Wat Chalong Temple

Wat Chalong Temple – all glittering gold, elephants and orchids.

The locals were out, offering incense, prayers and flowers.

The images of Buddha presided.

The artwork and the colours were amazing.

An incredible place.

I wondered what these beehive structures were. Then I found out and nearly jumped out of my life. They throw big firecrackers in there and it exaggerates the noise so that it sounds like explosions.

India – the 1200 year-old Kailasanatha Temple in Kanchipura – Photos

The old temple was made of sandstone which had weathered over the ages. In a few places it had been restored, but I’m glad they did not restore it all. There is something beautiful about natural wear and erosion. I prefer it to the new.

The old statues and columns were things of wonder. While not being religious I do enjoy religious architecture and art. They deployed their very best artists and builders.
