Peru – Inca ruins and terracing in the mountains

We went from a small town up into the mountains to explore some Inca ruins. I’ve no idea what they were called. The massive interlocking stones had been carved so precisely that they still looked pristine. You could see how they fitted together without needing mortar.

Inca ruins with interlocking stones – Saqsayhuaman Ruins in Cusco, Peru

There are some other amazing Inca ruins around Peru. The buildings were made without mortar. They interlock – which makes them earthquake resistant! Amazing architecture!

Photography – Peru – a few more photos from Cusco – beauty – costume and Incas.

We spent some time in the Amazon jungle before heading for Cusco. The people were dressed up in their native costumes complete with children, lambs and llamas in order to get some money out of the tourists.

It was a sight to see.

Photography – Peru – The Ballestas Islands – A treasure trove of wild life + Inca ruins

In 2006 we had the opportunity to tour Peru. It was incredible. From rainforest to volcanos and Machu Pichu. Awesome. We went out to the Balestas islands where there were seals, penguins, pelicans and millions of wild sea birds.

We toured the Inca ruins, flew over the Nazca lines and saw the incredible Candelabra (created in the desert by the Incas thousands of years back). The scenery was stunning.

Here’s a few piccies.
