Derbyshire and the Peak District!

We had a fabulous break with friends, wandering the hills of Derbyshire, talking and playing. All brilliant. Here’s a glimpse:

Holly McNish – poet – On friends.

This poem really moved me. My friends are scattered or gone. I’m reaching that age when they evaporate into infinity. It won’t be that long until I too make that journey into the endless void. So from this vantage point I look back and yearn. Where are all my friends? Why did we spend so much time apart? Why did we allow life to separate us? I too yearn for those simple times, sharing simple things and just being together. Those times are precious. You can’t go back but I have my memories and yearning.

Poetry – Searching for Paradise

Searching for Paradise

I’ve been searching for paradise.

Under a blue sky with warming sun

I’ve hunted for where it might be.

I’ve asked my many friends;

Travelled over green hills and mountain peaks,

And through many a grove of trees.

Taking my love by the hand

We’ve wandered through magnificent lands

In the hopes that we might see.

I’ve read a thousand books

And heard a million heart-warming tales

With which I thoroughly agree.

I’ve looked through microscopes and telescopes

At crystals and planets,

Magnificently huge and exceptionally twee;

I’ve studied multitudes of wondrous creatures,

Beautiful blossoms,

And many a restless sea.

I’ve read gurus, poets and philosophers

But none of them agree

So I’ve come to accept that what will be, will be.

I think that finally,

I’ve come to understand

That paradise

Is always close at hand.

Isn’t this life wonderful?? It has such a range of wonderful experience.

All we can do is dive in and sample it all, lap it up and try the full gamut.

Why limit yourself?

Launch yourself at everything!

Search for what is important.

Search for beauty.

Search for love. It’s all out there!

Warm sun, empty beaches, nature, warm water – a beer, friends and nature all around. What could possibly be better??

Poetry – In A Bubble

In A Bubble

I’m in a bubble,

On an island,

Marooned

Within a crowd.

Completely silent,

Though I’m talking –

Shouting

Rather loud.

Opher – 13.11.2020

I think this lockdown is getting to me. I miss seeing friends and having a good argument or two about the world.

It’s not the same on line or on the phone.

I miss the interaction.

I do not feel as if I am among my type of people.

I’m stuck out here in a bubble. There’s no stimulation, no questioning.

Marooned.

Poetry – Communication – a poem to the expansion of minds that takes place when we talk and listen to each other.

There is nothing better than a debate, discussion and argument between friends as we pierce the truth of all we know.

For only in the sharing, thinking through and weighing up can we hope to grow.

Our minds illuminate the truths that grow inside our heads as our brains are stimulated by the concepts of others. Ideas and thoughts chase each other and, like pinballs, they collide and spark new, exciting answers.

Talk is the nourishment of the neurones. It gives birth to new delights.

Communication

Communicate with me

For that is how we grow.

Open your mind

For me to see

And delight

In what we find.

Share your thoughts

And hear mine

And we will nod our heads

As we ponder

Upon the truths

Of what we both have said.
