Another excerpt from – 53 and imploding Kindle/Paperback

I wrote this novel twenty years ago. I am currently writing a book on Ian Dury but I am visiting with my old self when I need a break, to clear my head. I love Ian Dury but concentrating hard for long periods is tiring. I need a break. Reading this autobiographical novel is like visiting with my old self. Have I changed? No, not much. I’m still happy and irascible.

Here’s another slice of the cake:

53 and Imploding:

Does death scare you?

The universe is so big that our egos do not even have the significance of a speck of dust; our intelligence is laughable. From my perspective your Leah jet can’t get you there and your wealth can’t buy a single star. Your beliefs won’t gain you a second more and all your possessions will be passed down to others and decay.

The only good thing is that one day all traces of us will cease to exist and our place in the history of the universe will be as if we had never breathed.

All we have to play with is the present. We can build futures. We can stop suffering. We can care. We can make this second perfect. Surely that is a worthwhile aim?

I hear the ticking. Each tap on this keyboard could have been spent differently. I continue to tap until something more important comes along. I would like to see what that might be.

I would like to be happy. I continue to send reports from the termitarium. These are the sermons on the mound.

I am sitting at my computer in my room and tapping in the contents of my mind. Can you glimpse me between the words or is the person you think you’re seeing merely a shadowy fiction?

The Antitheist’s Bible reinvented!

I was unhappy with this novel so I reinvented it with the help of my good friends Kathy and Tobes.

I am a man who is soaked in awe and wonder, who sees beauty and mystery in the whole universe, but who remains incredibly skeptical of ALL religion. I see religion on a par with politics – a power game.

Religion for me is a throwback to our primitive past. All religions reflect the cultures from which they emanate. They are steeped in misogyny, tribalism and hate. They reinforce division and prejudice. I despise them all.

The concept for this novel was to have my character aiming to write a scurrilous book revealing all the dark power games, control, brainwashing, intrigue and hypocrisy that lies behind all religions.

There is a strong biographical element to it as my character weaves in death, the end of a career and the vagaries of life into the story. It’s fast-paced and blasphemous. But it needs telling.

All the characters are straight out of my imagination (even when based on real people). Nothing is real.

Why not dip in and prepare to be shocked? This is the antidote to religion – THE ANTI-THEIST’S BIBLE!

ANGRY

ANGRY

My mind is crippled

My emotions crawl

My memory limps

My psychology stalls

Shouting over the tramping of those worker ants

Standing in the shadow of these anorexic dwarves

My arguments decay into worthless rants

My best ideas become fodder for the wolves

There must be more than this

There has to be a way

That gives a sense of purpose

With something real to say

Somewhere between the mindless and the mean

Between the leaders and followers

What is and might have been

Between the sickeningly sweet and the vicious kick

Between the awesome mystery

Religion and the sick.

Somewhere between the ageing and the end

Between the discovery and death

The laws to break and mend

Between the exploiting cynic and the devotee

Between the moments that matter

And the lives of you and me.

There must be more than this

There has to be a way

That gives a sense of purpose

With something real to say

What do you think?

Incredible it appears that my paperback version is now available before the kindle version is ready.

In the UK it is available on the link below. In the States it should be out on Amazon.com USA. It would be nice if you gave it a try. It is selling for £5.99.

Please give me a bit of feedback.

Thank you

Cheers – Opher

I am often dismayed by the vacuous nature of most people’s lives. Thoreau said that we lead lives of quiet desperation. Most of us get bogged down in narrow horizons of daily chores. We go through life like cattle chewing the cud in fields; without a thought for the future of life outside the field. I see a whole world the other side of the hedge and an abattoir just down the road.

I always promised myself that I would live life to the full, experience it and wring it dry. I promised myself that I would not sink into the rut that I saw my parents slide into. There was more than work, a routine and telly.

There is a world to engage in. There are huge issues to become involved with. There are things to create. There is a future to help build.

Once you start seeing what our glorious leaders are doing; the inequality, destruction and selfishness they instigate, and the level of hypocrisy that is involved, the insanity they preside over, it fills you with impotent fury.

I want a simple, happy life of enquiry, creativity, friendship and purpose in which we preserve the planet for our grandchildren and all manner of life that lives on it. I do not subscribe to endless growth, wealth creation and unsustainable destruction.

I am consumed with the desire to do something about it.

I want a positive zeitgeist!
