My breath is political

I am alive to what happens in the world.

Every breath is political.

To relax for a second

Is to endorse the hypocritical.

To deny the evidence of our eyes

To be manipulated

By fascist totalitarian lies –

Creeps in where truth capitulated.

Artists capture truth in reality.

Rulers of your minds,

Robbing the ability to think

Greatest gift of all mankind’s.

I’m writing with my blood,

Washing in my tears,

Seeing so much good,

Tyranny down the years.

I’m not sure if this poem really works. I don’t think the metering is quite right. But when I say it out loud I can use the stress on the syllables to bring it into line.

The sentiment is fine.

There is a constant battle going on between those who care and those who don’t; those who believe in intolerance and iron control and those who believe in freedom of thought and action; those who would build concentration camps for anyone who does not agree or fit the mould and those who enjoy the richness of difference, the compassionate and the cruel.

Fascism is ever present. Given half a chance it’s back. Totalitarianism has to be fought. It seems to be a default state for humans. It’s not a matter of left and right. Autocratic control is a product of left and right. It’s all about power, control and paranoia.

We have to be ever vigilant and always prepared to stand up for what we believe – Trump, Oban, Bolsonaro, Modi, Xi, Johnson, Erdogan – they’re all the same. Fascism stinks.

America pulls back from becoming an undemocratic fascist state.

Why isn’t this guy locked up already?

Never has there been such a flirtation with fascism in America. An attempt to completely undermine democracy and install an authoritarian state based on some misogynistic Old Testament nonsense.

Hopefully this is the end of the orange tyrant and his ignorant self-serving rhetoric!

This crook needs locking up on a hundred and one charges ranging from insurrection to tax evasion. We’ll see.

To say there is

He who controls the narrative controls the people. The news is being suppressed, the people oppressed.

Putin and his oligarchs walk off with the cash while the people live in tiny apartments and eat boiled cabbage.

Communism was meant to be about equality! About the people being in charge.

This form of totalitarianism coupled with extreme inequality and a ridiculously wealthy elite is about as far away from communism as you can get. This is repressive totalitarian control.

The people are on the street. The hierarchy is crumbling fast.

The rat is trapped – a victim of his own greed and paranoia.

The Story of Fascism

It starts with fear and hatred

Of the outsider,

Of all who are different.

It proceeds through blame

To attribute the wrongs

To the chosen targets.

It creates simplistic panaceas

Of black and white.

It is idealistic.

If only these problems

Were addressed,

These people removed,

Perfection could be achieved.

It operates through an air of superiority

Through arrogance and certainty.

Only some are worthy.

There is a hierarchy of evils.

There are means to an end.

Power is the vehicle.

Morality is shelved.

The solution requires

The methodology.

Compassion is a weakness.

It is a cancer.

It is a cancer.

It is a cancer.

That cancer is destroyed through the chemo of education, love, friendship and the final recognition that we are no better than anybody else.

We are all one, all equal.

If we work together we are stronger.

It seems we are always going through this cycle where we embrace this ideology of fascism. We are going through a phase. The right is on the march. Populism, with all its ugly hate and fear, is a growing phenomenon.

Fear of Muslims. Fear of immigration. Fear of the outsiders. It seems to generate a response. That response is a great lurch to the right. Hysteria. Fascism.

We’ve fought wars to rid ourselves of this scourge but still is regularly arises.

These people see themselves as warriors standing up for the purity of their race. They feed off the stories that generate fear and hate. They exaggerate and invent the horror stories until the minds are clouded and the defence mode is paramount.

Yes – that is true. You kill fascism through education, intercourse and understanding. Music is more powerful than bullets.

I wrote this five years ago at the advent of this surge of fascist populism that was swamping the world – Trump, Johnson, Erdogan, Bolsonaro, Modi – all a bunch of extreme right-wing sloganeers. They used simple populist slogans to get elected and then, when the covid-19 virus struck, showed us quite clearly how useless they were.

Leading us all

Towards a blizzard

Of blood and fire.

Psychopathy

Pointing the way

Forward

Into oblivion.

Sociopathy

Rising

To the top,

In black and white

Popularity.

Trumped

We are beset by a huge number of problems. The collapse in the world economy has created misery in its wake. Those in power have chosen to impose austerity on the poor while unleashing the rich in the hopes they might generate wealth.

We have war, fundamentalism, environmental destruction, species eradication, mass poverty, mass migration, terrorism, poaching, pollution, disease, sexism, religious ferment, homophobia and racism.

Some choose to exploit this with sloganeering simplicity and populist propaganda. If only it was that simple.

Do not worry.

I will solve all your problems.

I will build a wall.

I will ban all minorities from breathing our air.

I will destroy all who oppose us.

I will stand up to Putin and the communist threat.

I will unleash a war on terrorism.

I will wipe out all terrorists, ISIS, Boko Haram, the Taliban.

I will stop migration.

I will not give a damn about anyone else outside of this country.

I will isolate us from the problems of the world.

I will lock up the gangs, criminals and wrongdoers.

I will stop any other religion coming in.

I will keep our country pure.

I will make us great again!!!

What we need is strong leadership!! More walls!!! More bans!!! More balls!!! More Wars!!! More trade restrictions!! Less care!! Less tolerance!!! And less pussy-footing about!!
