Poetry – Infinity 8 – An instant in time

DSC_0649

That’s all we are – an instant in time – here and gone forever. A necklace of moments strung into some semblance of continuity.

Life is merely about maximising the wonder of each of those moments. We live them, waste them and love them.

Life is what we fill our moments with. I like to fill mine with as much as I can cram in. Life is about doing, being, feeling, loving, wonder and awe.

Even mountains only last a moment.

This is infinity:

Infinity 8 – An instant in time

I am the harbinger of doom

I am the harper of reality

I am the folded paper

I am the greatest strength

The power to wilt

I am Hercules and the Triple Goddess

I am forever and a day

I am Apollo and the great wealth

I am all that defies description

I am the will ‘o the wisp

I am the witches lesson

I am the herb’s power

Only the bard can glimpse my shroud

Opher 1973

I deliberately wrote these without punctuation. I wanted each line to be a meditation. Some of those still work for me. But hey – I was a kid!

Poetry – Holes – a poem for the void

IMG_5965

I was feeling a little melancholy today – thinking of friends and family who are no longer here, of memories that have disintegrated and dreams that I no longer have. It is as if time erases everything we hold dear. It eats away our cherished dreams.

One day it will have taken it all.

I guess that is a trifle melancholy. But tomorrow I will dream again! That it what it is to be human.

Holes

Holes:

I am becoming full of holes.

Places where people once were;

Where memories resided;

Where my dreams were stored –

Now holes.

Instead of shrinking

They grow –

like acid.

What was real

And full of laughter and hope

Is now a vacuum

I skirt around.

Each love and dream

Becomes a hole.

I am eroding

Gradually

Into the void.

Soon there will be more that is gone

Than remains

And eventually

I myself will become

A hole.

Poetry – Infinity 7 – Another sliver of forever.

It would be fun to have Reality Dreams in my hand as the book I always intended it to be. It has sat in a drawer for forty years. I know it is not publishable but it was a usefuyl stepping stone into producing my later books. You learn from your mistakes. I still like the concept!

Infinity 7 – Another sliver of Forever

I am the arrow in the eye of the mighty

I am the foundation that cracks

I am the darkness at noon

I am the moon’s lunacy

I am the voice of the oracle

My jokes are your reactions

I am the roar of a lion

I am the lullabye of a brook

I am the crack of the whip

I am the glow of a flame

My dreams are understanding

Poetry – Infinity 6 – Breaking infinity into bits

IMG_5916

I’m finding it interesting to go through this old book of mine. Reality Dreams was started in 1971. I wrote these short poems on infinity that I interspersed through the other writing and drawing. The idea was to create a collage, a literary and visual exploration of reality with story, anecdotes and surreal dimensions. It was all very sixties-ish.

This is the sixth section.

Infinity 6 – Another piece of infinity

I am missing from the politicians mouth

I am absent from all factories

I am the ambiguity in the machine

I am the greatness in the peace of the countryside

The green leaves and rolling hills

I am that falling leaf

I am the miracle of breath

I am the reawakening from sleep

My lust is growth

I am the endless riddle of all time

I am the dizzy height

But to you I am the distortion

Poetry – Infinity 5 – another dollop of forever!

Stanzas and Stances cover Opher’s new poetry anthology out now!

This is another dollop of forever from my first book Reality Dreams from 1971.

I was very interested in infinity.

Infinity 5 – Another dollop.

I am the colour of the wind

I am the sound of darkness

I am the strength of elastic

I am the smell of moonshine

Who but I float effortlessly in time?

I have been the Oak and Wolf

I have been Arthur and the Snake

I have been the Moon and Sea

I have been of wood and stone and metal

Moved by fire wind and rain

I am the alchemist’s bane

I am sometimes this

And sometimes that

I am the gold in all metals

Could change affect me?

I am ceaseless change

That alters none

I am premordial soup

I am the newt’s eye and hellibore

I am the crane’s bag

My letters do not spell

Opher 1971

It’s nice to visit with me for a while. I remember!

Poetry – Infinity 4 – Another glimpse into the past.

Stanzas and Stances cover

I wrote this poem back in 1971 as part of my first multidimensional book – Reality Dreams.

I interspersed these drops of infinity between the chapters. This is like reconnecting with a self that lives in a different Dimension.

Infinity 4

I have many facets

I have many meanings

I am easily misunderstood

I am of considerable depth

Do not underestimate me

I am growing into myself

I am the ceasing force

I am the Roebuck’s disappearing tracks

I am the priestesses erotic dance

I am ecstasy

Nothing satisfies me

Opher 1971

I believe I had just read Robert Graves’ White Goddess. I was full of it!

Poetry – Stanzas and Stances – My 4th Anthology – passed scrutiny for publication.

AppleMark

My fourth anthology of poems – Stanzas and Stances – has passed all the scrutiny for publication.

It should be available on Amazon in Kindle edition by the end of the day.

It will be available on Amazon in paperback in a couple of days.

I will keep you posted.

For those who have been reading my poetry on my blogs you will have a good idea what it is all about. I usually find that an issue inspires me to write a poem and I accompany that with a bit of writing that sheds light on the poem and the issue that inspired it.

Poetry Anthology – Stanzas and Stances – The Front Cover

AppleMark

This painting of mine is going to be the front cover. Any views?

I always use my art or photography to produce the covers. It works for me. I don’t want a corporate, polished ‘product’; I want something that says something about me and my creativity. I think it makes my books look distinct – and they are me!

Poetry Anthology – Stanzas and Stances – The Introduction

AppleMark

This is the introduction to my fourth poetry anthology. What do you think?

Introduction

For me all my writing is a continuum. I make no distinction as to what type of writing it is. Sometimes I write a novel that is a poem or a poem that is a novel in fewer words.

I have a coherent philosophy – make your life meaningful, fulfilled and positive; make the world a better place; be nicer to each other and the planet.

I do not like the capitalist dream of progress at the expense of everything else. I would prefer care, justice, freedom and respect.

My poems are fuelled by strong emotions. I rarely write about things I find trivial. I want my poems to express the feelings I have inside. There is a lot of turmoil in there.

At the end of my life I do not want to feel that I haven’t tried, haven’t taken enough risks, haven’t pushed myself, haven’t fulfilled my potential.

I want to make a difference.

I do not do things because I have to. I do things because they need doing; I follow my heart. It does not always lead me down an easy road.

By the time you get to the end of this book you will know who I am. I leave myself bare. Nothing is off limits.

Love and best wishes to you all

My fourth anthology of poems – Stanzas and Stances – is now in production.

AppleMark

Stanzas and Stances is my fourth anthology of poems. I have now put it into production and it should be published by next week.

I chose the title because it is a collection of poems which are largely involved with issues I hold dear to my heart. They are things I care about and take a stand on.

I write because I am passionate about things.

The cover of the book is the painting above. Like all my books I base the covers on my own art or photography. I hope you like it.
