Crooked Weather at the Adelphi in Hull – Review and pictures.

The last time I saw Crooked Weather they were playing as an acoustic duo supporting Bruce Barthol (formerly of Country Joe and the Fish) – now they were the full electric band supporting Barry Melton (formerly of Country Joe and the Fish) – something fishy going on here!

I’ve seen Crooked Weather a number of times now and they just get better and better. Holly’s voice is exquisite, Will’s guitar playing (both acoustic and electric) is just getting better and better and driven by those drums and bass they really rock.

They gave a superb set at the Adelphi last night.

Crooked Weather at the Kardomah, Hull – Photos and review.

I have seen Crooked Weather before as a band but this was the first time I had seen them operating as a duo – and very good they were too. I thought they were even better than the band. The drums and base did not mask their engaging personalities.

I thought they looked a little vulnerable on stage, as if they were exposed, but that was a good thing. It enhanced the performance and gave it an edge.

Holly’s fine voice created a lilting melody that was very beautiful. She also provided a steady base with her guitar strumming for Will to ornament with his electric guitar, picking the notes to provide a balancing strength that was refreshing. Somehow they managed to create music that was both melodic but had a strength and Indie edge. The resulting performance was both strong and lyrical.

A powerful set.
