I could just imagine this wonderful complex on an island in the centre of a lake majestically rising out of the landscape. Over a thousand years old. It is a wonder.

Sri Lanka – Colombo, Adventures in the Buddhist temple.

Rooms full of art and treasure, an elephant in the yard, flowers and wonder.

Hong Kong – more images from the Tzs Shan Monastery

So much to see!! I was intrigued that people still worship.

Hong Kong – Tzs Shan Monastery

I adore Buddhist temples – all those monsters, architecture and colour. It’s like Hieronymus Bosch come to life!

Taiwan – A Buddhist Temple – Photos

There aren’t too many old structures in Taiwan. It is a country ravaged by earthquakes. All the old buildings have been flattened.

This big temple complex is quite new. I just love the colours and vitality.

Saigon – the amazing floating temple!

We headed up the Saigon river on a tiny boat with an outboard motor. We were heading for the floating temple! It is renowned for its intricate artistic detail. Some might find it gaudy and garish but is is truly amazing. It is constructed so that it does appear to be floating.

It floated in the water among the waterweed but was really on a island.

It is a dragom temple constructed in the Chinese style – very heavily decorated and brightly coloured. Mosaics, reliefs, paintings, sculptures, caricatures, demons and dragons. It has it all.

I’m enjoying going through these photos from our amazing journeys around the world. We’ve been so incredibly privileged!!

Sri Lanka – Colombo – Inside the Buddhist Sambodhi Chaithya Temple

We went up the windy staircase, across the walkway and into the temple. I’m not sure what we were expecting. It was different. Inside the stupa, there were many paintings of the Buddha, temples and scenes. It was massive.

Sri Lanka – Colombo – Buddhist Temple Gangaramaya – More photos

OK – you’re probably fed up with these. I’ve put out too many photos. But I think you can see I was quite smitten with the place. It was a treasure trove.

I’ll move on.

Sri Lanka – Colombo – Buddhist Temple Gangaramaya

Our next port of call was the Buddhist temple of Gangaramaya.

Outside the florists sold their flowers as offerings.

Inside it was like a museum of porcelain Buddhas.

The wood carvings on the panelling were delightful.

The monks were very friendly.

Like most Buddhist temples, it had a serene feel to it – though this was far busier than many I have been to.

Penang – Malaysia – In and around the Buddhist Temple complex of Kek Lok Si

As we moved up through the temple complex there was much to see and enjoy of Buddhist art, decoration, sculpture, imagery and architecture.

I just love the colours.
