When I started doing these daily updates I hadn’t really thought it through. I had this idea that I would do a diary of what was happening and how I was feeling. I suppose I thought that at some stage I might get the disease. I also thought that this isolation would only last a while.
Well here we are – Day 62 – and no end in sight.
The talking points today are about schools going back, the easing of restrictions and getting back to work and this new antibody test.
Firstly schools – there is an inherent problem here. Schools are not designed for social distancing. There are pinch points. Classrooms are stuffy. That means that inevitably kids are going to be mixing and teachers are going to be exposed.
Kids will be coming into school from different homes. Their parents will be out working. There seems to me to be a high risk of spreading the disease. That poses a lot of questions.
Are the children safe? (Particularly with a number of them going down with this nasty sounding Covid related disease)
Are the teachers safe?
Will schools start spreading the virus back into the community?
I reckon it’s early days. Sounds like a big risk.
Likewise with the easing of restrictions. Seeing the pictures of buses and trains crammed it looks like a big risk. There is a lot of Covid out there in the population. If you can’t distance you are going to be picking it up and spreading it. With a two week gestation it will not be evident for two more weeks.
I reckon we’re in for another big surge!!
A reliable antibody test will at least tell us who has had the disease. That’s a start. It’s making sure it’s reliable that is the problem.
I think we are becoming used to hearing about deaths. Every day there’s another five hundred. That’s a lot of people!
I can’t see a vaccine being produced for a long time.
Until we get down to small enough numbers where people can be tested and contacts followed up we are going to be in lockdown. This is going to become a way of life!!
So today I played Django Reinhardt to soothe my mind.
I worked on my Sci-Fi novel Star and I went for a long walk up the hill on to the Wolds. An old friend dropped by on a bike ride and we had a long distance chat!
It is becoming a strange existence. Thank heavens the weather has been kind.
Stay safe everyone!
