They are really naughty. They jump on people to deliberately scare them, grab food, glasses, hats and love flip-flops. They know what to do with them too and put sunglasses and hats on to taunt you. But they are great.
Do you ever wonder why some of us find monkeys so fascinating? Have you ever read the book “Dark Inheritance” by W. Michael and Kathleen O’Neal Gear?

No I’ve not read that. What is it about?
I always wanted a monkey as a pet. They are so inquisitive and cheeky, so intelligent – and so closely related to us.

Ever since he became one of several scientists chosen to raise apes bred by the pharmaceutical giant SAC, Dr. Jim Dutton, his daughter Brett, and the bonobo ape Umber have been a family. Umber types, reads, speaks sign language, and even contemplates the nature of God. Then a colleague forces Jim to confront the reality he’s tried to ignore: Umber and the other SAC apes are “augmented” apes, more similar to early hominids than to anthropoids. When SAC abruptly demands Umber’s immediate return, it becomes vital for Jim to discover why the corporation created this new species. The quest for answers will take Jim and his family to Africa where the struggle to uncover SAC’s secrets becomes a fight for survival.
“…an exciting, provocative story.” (Publishers Weekly)

Awww I love monkeys! There were a few living in my compound in Kenya. I miss them although I don’t miss them hissing at me.
Loading...
Why did they hiss at you? Was because people shoo them away?
Loading...
Yeah everyone shoos them away because they get into peoples houses and make a mess although I usually give them food but they still hiss at me when I don’t give them food! Weirdly enough they really like carrots.

They really are very mischievous. They know just what they’re doing. I’ve never heard of them liking carrots before.

Yes they are so mischievous! They can really turn your house upside down! Yeah they eat most fruits and vegetables. I’ve seen them eat avocados and pretty much anything they can find!

The baboons I met in South Africa were a bit scary.

Yeah they can really hurt you if you’re not careful.

I’ve heard they can be vicious – but they are such fabulous animals.
Loading...
Yeah they’re cute but if you get too close they will scratch your face off.

Not if I pretend to be a tiger surely?
