Scaremongering and Lies
Scaremongering and lies
Scaremongering and lies
Were the substance of their cries.
Project fear
Project fear
They made their feelings clear.

Independence day
Who cares if we will have to pay.
Migration
Migration
We’re losing our nation.
Islam
Islam
The fear that is a sham.
The fascists and nationalists rub their hands;
It’s beyond their wildest dream.
Isolationism and poverty
As the economy leaks from every seam.
Heading for a meltdown
In the uncertainty pit.
The rising of the right
The result of it.
As the country turned blue
In a day we’ll live to rue.
Opher 24.6.2016
Right now I am thoroughly depressed. I fear for my children – all four of them at risk.
Interest rate rises will plunge tens of thousands into despair.
Corbyn was the silent man. He has to go.
Cameron has gone.
What now? Blundering, bluff of blustering Boris? Snide viciousness of Gove?
More austerity is inevitable.
How many companies will flee?
How far will house prices drop?
The pound will rise but to what level?
How many billions will the country lose?
How much damage will the uncertainty do?
How will the terrorists exploit the confusion?
And Russia? – more war in Europe?
Already the reassurances of Stupid Boris and Gove have proved inept and naïve – perhaps even cynical.
I fear for the future of the country. This is a self-created crisis and nobody knows how bad it will get. The saddest thing is that the ones who will be hit by it will be the ones who gleefully voted for it.
All we can do is hope and try to minimise the effects and heal the divisions.
Be afraid.
Opher, Stop. ” The saddest thing is that the ones who will be hit by it will be the ones who gleefully voted for it” – that is a really bloody nasty thing to say I Voted For It and did not go in “gleefully” as you put it to make the mark, I voted because I felt that was the right decision. NO one wants to see a Country divided or have to read such as you put. “Leave” voters have had to endure being called racists/stupid/not capable of having degrees you name it it’s been thrown at us this morning. Bitterness is not going to help. Do you think for one moment I would be behaving like you if I had lost, No you accept the democratic choice that has been made and go forth. You are not the only one worried about your Children. Oh and why have you not criticised Corbyn before, different now is it?
Not directed at you Anna. I respect your reasons though I don’t agree with them one bit. I think they were misguided. I’ve been listening to the village chavs who do go gleefully to vote like lambs to the abattoir. They were talking complete bollocks.
I not bitter. I am not full of hate. I despair at the utter stupidity of the vote and the lies put forward by Boris, Gove and Farage.
I am full of fear for the future. It is not the division – it’s the extremism.
I worry like hell for my kids – they could all now be in dire straits. The economic crash might make the previous crisis look mild. You thought I was scaremongering. I was not. I was warning. You don’t treat a cold with malaria.
The Irish are now pressing for a referendum. The EU was their saviour. The Scots will go.
Watch the dominoes as it goes out of control. Who knows where it will end?
Let me tell you something, the Irish are pressing to get out because we won’t be paying for them anymore. Also Opher I have Irish blood in me and I hope my Ashes will be laid there but the Irish will blame us for everything, they do, believe me. They do not want the Borders put up between them and NI, the Irish shop across the border, now they will have to show Passports. They have wanted to get rid of the Euro money for years now. They are angry with us, when it was clear this morning “Leave” would win, on RTE TV/Papers the comments about us said it all. When I talk to Cousins over there, I read between the lines.
We all fear for the future, I was worried staying in the EU. We have less life ahead of us, of course we think of our Children and what is to happen to them. Your kids may have probs buying houses, you have your Grandchildren too. My two will have a fight on their hands to keep this house when that bitch of a sister of mine dies, she f….d me over well and my Sons.
Holland has wanted out for a long time along with Sweden and others, we have done it now they will go. The whole World is in trouble, nothing to do with the Vote last night, nor can blame be put on the Russians.
I too have Irish and Scottish blood. They’ll go. The UK will break up. What next Cornwall? Wales?
Then Europe – will that break up?
Who benefits from all this? The rich speculators? The USA? Russia? China? India?
What chaos. What stupidity. You’re right – the whole world is in trouble.
Opher, Europe will crumble they have all been watching and waiting to see who would be the first to go – we had the guts to have a Referendum they have watched our result now they want the same. One thing I am so pleased about and I hope you are too, is that the fat cats like Kinnock and wife and all the MEPs living the high life, it’s all over no more good times – and that makes me happy. The Country divided, it was not just poor parts of the Country that wanted out, places like Gloucestershire and Hampshire and very good parts of Essex (did you look at the link my Son sent you?). Falling asleep here, already had five coffees to stay awake.
The hard-line Tory areas were bound to vote Brexit. They were always xenophobic, nationalistic and God, Queen and country. It was the disaffected council estates that won it for Brexit.
I think the EU will disintegrate. It would not have if we’d stayed in. That is a disaster. It is terrible for the environment, human rights, employment rights, pollution and prosperity.
Yes the gravy train needs ending. But cutting your nose off to spite your face is not the way forward. The EU is much worse for us going – they will need to make an example of us to try to stop others leaving. Look forward to the trade wars.
Maybe up North on the Council Estates, but Hampshire hardly Council Estates all over the place. Here where I live there are no Council Estates and it was all “Leave” signs, Benfleet where I used to live the same. Opher you cannot blame the vote for everything that will go wrong. Europe was going to break up anyway, you know that. The Far Right in Germany/Belgium/Holland etc – maybe different names they use but they wanted out. What has caused the biggest problem is not the UK and those of us that voted “Leave”, it’s all the immigrants even Corbyn would not put a figure on those he would let in. Sexual assaults on Women in Germany. Then the other day a 120 yr old Nudist Club in Germany has been
banned because it is upsetting the immigrants – what a nerve. We have to fit our lives to suit them, like hell.
I don’t agree that the EU was going to break up. It might now and I would find that a huge backward move for a whole load of reasons.
We know that the South is very right-wing and xenophobic. That’s Tory heartland. The London and Labour cities – Sunderland, Newcastle, Hartlepool they were where the votes were lost. Labour failed to get its message across. UKIP did its racist bit and stirred up emotions. That is where it was lost. We were never going to persuade the Tory shires and heartland. They are too God, King and Country. That’s where I grew up. I went to their rugby club and met them all. I worked with them when I was a Headteacher. I know how they think.
We all know about the rapes and the silliness. We should never bend over to accommodate immigrants. There’s been far too much of that. But we have laws – why aren’t they enforced? That needs sorting. But I fear those things are minor compared to the travails ahead.
I would support you on not bowing to immigrants. They should fit in with us. I’d ban burqas and monitor mosques and depart trouble-makers. But that’s nothing to do with Brexit.
I know you have Irish blood and yes they will probably go. They got the money from the EU, Well our money, and had the good times – cars/houses/holiday homes abroad you name it, it all made Ireland greedy they had too much cash too many credit cards, now they don’t have that and they have loads of Poles and Romanians and debts – seen it and my Cousins complain. So yes they want it. Cornwall Opher, God all those years ago when David (and he has been dead 24yrs this Christmas) the Boys and myself would go there twice a year people we knew were full of independance for Cornwall, would see signs everywhere. Kernow I think they called it. The World is a dangerous place in more ways than one, and not just since last night.
Last night made it more dangerous.
In your mind Opher. My Son sells to people all over the World, he works such long hours. He has regulars and not one has asked questions about UK may leave Europe, except the lad that designs for him, and he’s worried that “the scum” as it calls them won’t leave Romania they will be stopped.
I met a lady from Romania, a qualified nurse working as a low paid nanny in Basingstoke. Her and her husbands qualifications did not help them make ends meet for their family. Poverty is the problem. There are many, many jobs in London and the South East. My mother from Lincolnshire moved to London in the 1940s. Who from the north moves down now? Who works in the Lincolnshire harvests now? What I fear is that for many who are anti immigrant their prejudice can be voiced. So much anger and misunderstandings .
Anna – Billions to prop up banks again, pound down ten percent, Scotland referendum? Ireland referendum? Facists waving British flags in Europe, Leadership in Labour and Tories.
Its worse than Black Friday and the world crisis. More chaos and instability.
People aren’t scum. The migrants aren’t scum. They are people. Some will be unpleasant but most are hard-working and productive.
I hope your son continues to make a profit. It has only just begun. We will see how it maps out. Everything I see is disaster. I see not one single redeeming factor – not one.
Georgina the xenophobia put out by the Brexiters was palpable. It generated fear through exaggeration and lies. The migrants were portrayed as worthless bums, rapists and terrorists. It was shameful. Most are hard-working people trying to better themselves and help out their families. People who contribute greatly to the economy and more than pay their way. Not the drain on the NHS and schools as portrayed, not the free-loaders and criminals. The minority who are worthless were blown out of all proportion. So sad.
I did not call them scum, Patrick did – we don’t have to put up with these gypsies, have your homes broken into, your cars smashed. He was delighted that they came to England, he said where he lived was so much better. Some people are scum, it’s not a World of lovely kind people, you travelled you should know that – that was the 1960s/70s different then, right. You are all doom and gloom. You are really painting this Country badly and the people you don’t agree with. You never had a bad word for Corbyn, now it’s over you do – that’s dishonest.
What levels did “Remain” go to, sickening and dishonest. I remember the other day, any lengths to win and the same will be when they come to choose a new MP up North.
I am doom and gloom.
No I’m not dishonest. I like Corbyn. I like what he said and what he stands for but he proved himself unable, for whatever reason, to operate on the national stage. He was absent throughout the debate. His lukewarm response and low-key input has likely fucked the country. This is about politics. If you lose you get out. Osborn, Cameron and Corbyn.
No Anna – they weren’t lies. Remain told less lies that Brexit by a long shot. You chose to see them as lies and scaremongering. Tell me which lies were told – the economy? – Immigration? They told you what was going to happen. It is beginning to happen. A warning is not scaremongering when it is based on truth. Where are these lies?
I tell you the biggest lies – Turkey is going into the EU – we are going to have a European army – we will have a United States of Europe – we have no control over our borders – we cannot deport criminals – it costs us £350 million a week (A huge lie) – there will be no economic problem – it will not weaken our human rights/workers rights – we will reduce migration – we will not weaken our environmental cooperation – the economy will prosper – the money saved from the EU will be used for NHS/agriculture/same subsidies and everything else. We’ll build a new hospital each week. Unfortunately all lies. They generated hatred, fear and used immigration and terrorism to generate xenophobia and racism. I think you’ve got it all the wrong way round.
Anna I have encountered pleasant friendly people all over the world – particularly in poor countries. Not just in the 60s. This year in South America. Last year in Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Bali etc etc. The most obnoxious were some of the British passengers on the ship. I don’t share this view of the rest of the world. People are people. There’s good and bad everywhere. I’m not Islamophobic or xenophobic. I despise violence and fundamentalism. I love meeting people from different cultures and I’ve been to a lot of very poor places without a single bit of real nastiness. I’ve been lucky because I take a lot of risks. But I’ve travelled and seen the other side in Mexico, Africa, America etc. I’m not one of your naïve innocents. I’ve hitched and slept rough. I’ve met a lot of life’s losers.
Good poem, Opher and am linked to the writing blog of Sacha Black. They had a bloggers bash to bring folk together. Thought the links might be interesting. Lots on writing and publishing.
Thanks Georgina – I’ll check it out.
Yes, do. And hope the current narrative will not play out into failure. Maybe all should accept that the referendum is a goalless draw?
I hope it won’t prove too disastrous. But certainly, as far as I’m concerned, a step in the wrong direction.
Yes of course I have, only you are right all the time Opher. Damn it I said to you we all need to calm down that includes you. I will say again if that vote had gone the other way, and right to the end I thought it would, I would not be carrying on like this. The People made their choice in a democratic Country you may not like it, I may not have liked it had Remain won, but the fact is a decision was reached we just have to accept it and go on. This Country has been divided in too many ways. I think Farage should shut his mouth now, he is not an MP there is only one UKIP MP and he kept out of it except for two interviews? He should be ashamed, one email I had from him. He is Douglas Carswell our MP, he was Tory but switched to UKIP and the people here love him, I take him or leave him. What good are you going to do, you will change nothing -you make those who don’t agree with you look bad, I swear some agree with you for the sake of it. You will find fault in all of that,
After watching and listening and reading rubbish for weeks about this Vote, one thing is sure I will not be voting in any election for a hell of a long time. Do you know how pathetic it sounds “Remain told less lies than Brexit”, like a bunch of children. They were both as bad as each other.
It has happened that’s it, you are not the only one worried about your Children, told you several times I am too, everyone who has Children are always worried.
I find the European Cup (oh God I mentioned European) more exciting, I would rather watch Harry Kane, Rooney and Vardy (yes I remembered his name at last, there you can smile at that).
Good old Vardy. Hopefully he’ll give us something to cheer.
I do wish people would read what I put, I am not a racist for using the word scum – people are made to feel and told this when they make any mention of immigrants that someone else objects to. I repeat for what the third time – a Romanian Designer used the word scum referring to the gypsies that he and others are glad to see leave Romania for the UK, now they fear these will return, and spoil their way of life again. Anti immigrant, really.
I understand that Anna.
