Right now I think Roy and Tracey are really suffering. Two and a half years awaiting trial has really put the pressure on them. I don’t know how they’ve managed to cope. The trial was postponed and postponed. The publicity was dire. A great deal of praise must go to Tracey who has stood by him and supported him.
Roy has already served a sentence. It has cost him his career. All that late flourish of justified recognition evaporated. The album has gone. There is no follow-up album, no more Festival Halls, awards, TV and Radio. He was robbed of the recognition he deserved.
I was shocked to see the effect on their health. They both looked painfully thin, gaunt and haunted. Whatever the outcome it has taken its toll.
It must cast doubt on the wisdom of bringing someone to trial after forty years with what amounts to hearsay evidence. It must cast doubt over the whole business of anonymity. Splashing Roy’s name out there in order to flush any other victims out of the woodwork has backfired. The fact that there were none says it all.
What Roy and Tracey need is the positive thoughts and energy of all those who support him. He needs to feel that everyone cares. Put it out there on facebook. Put it on the web.
Every bit helps.
When this is over we need one great celebration!!!
