A Blue Heron on the Foss

A beautiful sight! He was posing for me.

The Yorkshire Dales – Janet’s Foss

There seems to be a fertility tradition for young girls to swim in its icy waters! Glad it’s just girls! I wouldn’t last five seconds!

The Yorkshire Dales – Gordale – Picturesque gorge and waterfalls. Piccies.

Some places are magical. Gordale is one of those. The landscape is breathtaking.

The Mississippi Blues Trail – The Blue Front Cafe – A Blues venue of note.

This was exactly the sort of joint I wanted to hear some great old blues played. Unfortunately there was nothing on!

South Africa – Extravagant Sunsets.

You cannot beat a sunset for unadulterated majesty. Never bored.

Pulling out of Lerwick

We sailed away in the evening sunshine. The town looked beautiful. Wish I could have stayed for longer.

Goodbye to the Shetlands

We sailed away and left it basking in the sunshine.

Looking back at Lerwick

Lerwick felt very Scottish. I loved it.

Through the streets of Lerwick – Shetlands.

A picturesque town with a Presbyterian feel.

The Shetlands – Lerwick

On a sunny summer’s day the grey stone of Lerwick looked inviting. The Viking boat moored in the harbour spoke of a populist nod to history dressed up for the tourists. A garage with an upturned boat as a roof was a novelty.

The place was beautiful but had a touch of religious austerity and puritanism.
