Some words of wisdom from a life that is beginning to get long.

Some words of wisdom from a life that is beginning to get long.

Being cool is a state of mind. You can’t buy it, wear it or pretend it.

Most people, on their own, are pleasant and helpful – put them in a group and a lot of them become spiteful, greedy and vicious.

Money does not buy happiness. It buys opportunities to do things and own things. The times when I’ve been happiest are when I’ve had no money.

There are no short cuts. Every short cut ends up taking longer, costing more and ending up worse.

Life is luck. Sometimes you’re there at the right time in the right place.

Making decisions with your glands is not a good idea.

Violence and hatred creates violence and hatred.

Humanity is a disaster for most other life on this planet.

It’s time we stopped electing glib psychopaths into office.

Charisma is rarely good.

Religion and politics are all about power.

Fun is good.

Reading can be as good as sex (in its own way) – but less messy.

Each moment is precious – fill it with wonder, joy, happiness, love and creativity!

Knowing The Secrets Of Being Successful

That’s the principle I applied when I was a Headteacher!

My belief – The Zeitgeist – we can change the world.

IMG_1138

I am a very happy, contented, positive character. (Contrary to what many of you may glean from some of my writing).

I am an eternal optimist.

I believe we can solve every problem and make the world perfect. We have the intelligence and problem solving capacity.

I believe in the zeitgeist.

I am not religious – I am an antitheist – I believe religions have created immense harm and are all manufactured by people. I do not believe in God or at least any force that you would recognise as god.

I am a scientist.

I am a scientist who believes that we are only at the beginning of understanding the universe and our own minds. We have much to learn.

I believe that somehow our mental processes produce as yet undiscovered emanations that affect everyone around us. It joins us together into an intermeshing network of minds; we swim in a mental pool created by us all. This is the zeitgeist of the moment.

I have lived through positive and negative zeitgeists. My belief is that we can change the world. If enough of us produce a positive vibe it will tilt the balance of the zeitgeist.

That may sound weird, wacky and naïve to you. It does to me as well. But that’s my hope for the future.

I write so that the nightmares we are creating don’t happen. I want to awaken everyone to what is going on and change the zeitgeist.

I am the eternal optimist but I see myself as a realist. It merely requires more of us! We can make a difference!

Human beings are very delicate.

Munch-Le-Cri-1895

I used to think we were strong. People seem so resilient. But I have come to realise just how fragile we really are. We put on a front for the world to see. Behind that is a mess of fear, pain and anxiety.

I was extremely fortunate to have a life that has been free of trauma. I thought it was the norm. It is not.

In the course of my career I have witnessed students torn apart by deaths or break-up in their families. They cease to behave normally.

I have come to learn that the abused are so traumatised by what has happened to them that they become abusers. The same goes for the bullied.

It has made me look around the world with fresh eyes at the raped, the dispossessed, the brutalised and ousted. Those that live in terror, those who starve in the midst of plenty and those who have been tortured or forced to flee.

My father was a soldier in the Second World War. He saw his friends killed. He did not talk about it. Some of my teachers were ex-soldiers from that conflict. They were among the most violent, vicious and disturbed individuals I have ever met.

Around the world we have wars that are affecting tens of millions. We have bereavements as part of everyday life.

I think all those brutalised people, whether victims or perpetrators, carry on the viciousness of the times out of the mental disturbance they have suffered.

Their brains have rewired.

Fascism is probably the result of anxiety and fear culminating in paranoia.

The only way we are going to escape this cycle is to have a generation who are free of war, torture and abuse and to get proper psychological support for the bereaved and traumatised.

Let’s hope we can find a way.
