Well today Boris Johnson is taken into hospital. Perhaps he is beginning to understand that shaking hands with all those people wasn’t such a good idea after all – as wasn’t visiting his Mum on Mother’s Day.
We had the bloody Queen talking to us yesterday harking back to Vera Lynn and We’ll Meet Again. It seems that everything from Brexit to Corona has to allude to the spirit of the Blitz and Dunkirk. I can’t see that there’s anything courageous about being in solitary. The courageous ones are the public servants out on the front line, the cleaners, power workers, carers, drivers and supermarket workers who are risking their lives keeping the wheels turning. The rest of us are being cosseted.
We are both locked down and well. My legs ache after yesterday’s two hour hike. I might do a little less today.
Today’s walk took us down the lane and then up a path. At one point there were hedges of May blossom on both sides with tortoiseshell and peacock butterflies tumbling around in the breeze. It had been raining in the night and one or two places were muddy but in general it was a pleasant walk, past farms with hens running loose and cockerels crowing, sheep and cattle and one beautiful large white mare with black markings standing watching us from a distance with her foal by her side. The sun was warm but there was a cool breeze. When the sun went in it was a little chilly.
We stood at the train crossing and watched two completely empty trains go by. I wonder how long they will keep those services going?
The hedges were alive with birds quarreling, seeking mates, laying claim to territory and nesting.
It might be a good year for nature!
Not such a good year for us!
Looking at the news in the USA and it looks dire:
Coronavirus Cases: 336,851 Deaths: 9,620 Recovered: 17,977
In the UK it is now 47,806 Cases and 4,934 Deaths.
So much for populist leaders. Give me Merkel any day!!
In Germany:
Coronavirus Cases: 100,132 Deaths: 1,584 Recovered: 28,700
I would suggest that we have a few less nuclear bombs and a lot more research into antivirals!!
I would also suggest that we shut down all those wild animal markets in China and the rest of Asia. Stop killing off the wildlife!! Stop spreading disease!!
Once again you’re right here dear oph.
And yet I do believe some of those “in charge” won’t get it but soon behave like Nero above the ruins.
Too true Matt. The establishment looks after the establishment – full stop!
