Quote 13 – Martin Niemöller – First they came……….
‘First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me’. It makes you wonder who these people are who come in the night in Nigeria, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, Argentina, Chile, Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia…………….. What makes a man a fascist? I’ll try and answer the posed question…perhaps it’s a sense of inferiority only cured by lording over others (power), or structure designed to excercise control (power, again)by proscribing a “keep ‘them’ in line” political system, best served by “business as government.” Plus, followers can wear snifty uniforms that help keep members part of a group and distinguish themselves from “the Other” by wearing the clothing. What makes them fascists? A sense of belonging not satisfied by other means? Contrary to their “belief,” it’s small change stuff, not love of country or patriotism.
I feeling of self-importance? A feeling of belonging? A sense of superiority over other groups? A feeling of being threatened and fighting back?
