I understand that there are many people denigrating and abusing people who voted leave. I think they are misguided. Their anger should not be directed in that way.
There were many reasons why people voted to leave. Many of them were valid and many of them were stupid and ill-informed. The same was true for the remain camp.
I respect all those who voted leave who had thought it through and arrived at a decision for one reason or another.
I don’t agree with them. I think the risk was far too great and the outcome is a disaster. I am extremely angry and frustrated. But I am not taking it out on anyone who thought differently to me. I respect them.
What is needed now is some way forward and that requires unity and cooperation.
We need to stop squabbling and look at ways of dealing with all the negative fall-out.
I did notice that yourself stated that anybody who voted Leave was thinking with their nether region! I l just put it down to emotions.
On the upside there may now be a few less joe public sheep out there with a better knowledge of what all this entails. I suppose that’s some form of education, isn’t it?
A hard lesson.
For yourself?
I don’t know where you gathered that quote of mine. Not the sort of thing I say at all and I do not have any concept of where I would have made a comment like that.
A hard lesson for all of us I believe, myself included.
From the time of the result and the abuse not just on the TV but on the internet, showed to me that I am glad I am 67 yrs of age and I have less in front of me than behind, for if the behaviour of the Remain Campaigners is anything to go by I do not understand the British anymore. I am delighted to be out of Europe and yes I am educated and yes I know precisely the reasons why I voted Leave and do not need to be questioned on my reasons time and time again.
If I appear annoyed in anyway, I am, I voted in the belief that whatever way the result went, we as decent British people would accept that decision and move on, but sadly how wrong I was. What a lesson to to teach Children, run a race and if you lose you can demand to run it again. Sour Grapes on the part of the losers, ever heard of “First Past The Post”. Racism has raised its ugly head, it is always there but now more and more is happening, racism is not one way just remember that.
We need to accept what has happened and work together not tear the Country apart, the decision has been made our Country is a great Country even though we knock it from time to time, it is still the best Free Democratic Country in the World, work together to keep it that way. Stop all the arguing, stupidity now. RESPECT GREAT BRITAIN. if you prefer the EU and think it is so wonderful, then by all means leave and go there.
How can people move on into the unknown? When the people who engineered it jeer and are abusive to our neighbours? When they backtrack on what they said? When we have people saying things like ‘sour grapes’ as if it’s a child’s game? When there is no plan for what happens next? When the future is now looking so grim?
The discussion is now how we make the best of a bad deal. There is much to argue about. This is the moment when the future of our country is determined. How we react to what has taken place determines what sort of country we will live it. I don’t want one that is poor, isolated and full of hate and division. I don’t want a country of xenophobia and racism. I want the environment being a prime consideration. Now is not the time to hide away. Now is the time to work out the best way forward.
I am not hiding away far from it, explain that remark. Sour Grapes yes sour grapes, no it is not a child’s game but then don’t act like one (not personal Opher) the behaviour of people who refused to accept the decision made, time and time again I have had to listen to those that voted Leave were uneducated, after all Opher you yourself made the remark “anyone voted Leave thought with their nether region”, what a nice thing to say, I was one of those. “People who engineered it jeer and are abusive to our neighbours” what is that supposed to mean, foolish of me expected better of you the former Teacher. It is though you are reading from the same sheet time and time again, it is all we see the same old thing.
I made my position clear above, all sides need to realize if we do not stand up and support this Country we will, well I don’t want to think about it. All these negative comments, do you really think they help. Yes before you push it down my throat again I know it is your blog and you have the right and people can respond and NO I am not being abusive or Threatening to Hit you and all the rest you have said. Britain matters not you, not me or all those of talking back and forth, it has to stop and think of this Country, I am sorry if you don’t understand that, then what is the point talking to you.
I have no idea where you got that quote of mine because that is not what I say. Sounds manufactured to me.
If you listen to Channel 4 where the political folk are talking through the ramifications you will see that it is not as simple as you make out.
Nigel Farage jeered and was abusive in a rude and most unpleasant manner to our European neighbours. I hope that clarifies it.
I do not spout other people’s words. I am clever enough to think for myself.
The country is in a right mess and there is a big job to be done putting together and finding a way forward. That is the discussion.
I absolutely agree Anna. You’ve hit the nail on the head.
Respect is at gutter level. The malcontents want to re-write the rule book to suit themselves regardless.
Having had the experience of living, doing business and doing quite a bit of travelling around the EU in recent years, I could not write home about it. Having heard first hand what others in Europe have to say about it also is a good enough indicator that there is something very wrong with it.
Here’s a right up to date example of the kind of mentality that we are up against.
This is coming directly from Germany’s leader, Merkel and it slaps the face of social justice, human rights and freedom of speech.
There is a fairly famous comedian in Germany (blimey, there can’t be many?) who had made fun of the Turkish Prime Minister and mocked him during one of his shows.
Merkel wants to use the full force of a German law that prohibits making fun of a foreign leader (who ever came up with such a law?) against this man.
He will be made an example of.
She knows there are millions of Germans who hate her guts for what she has just done to Germany and she and her (fascist) henchmen will do anything it takes to stamp the people down into silence.
Her double standards are disgusting as had this man made fun of North Korea’s leader for example, then nothing of this nature would ever happen.
This is the march of the Nazi Brown Shirts 1934 all over again. She’s going to get herself shot.
Thank you Andrew for your comments, which I do take note of as you have worked around the World seen what is going on. How right you are about Angela Merkel, she will get herself shot it is just a matter of time. The German people will not put up with what is going on for much longer. How can anyone give this woman any credit, she stood there and stated “Welcome all” and now look at the bloody mess we are all in. It is all very well to be the good guys on paper well internet, but it seems all Remain can do is discredit this Country. If the Leave Voters are told we have to vote again, then if they stand up I will fight with them no matter what it takes.
I shocked my youngest Son yesterday morning when he asked would you change your vote if David Cameron got a better deal, I said to David “definitely not”, now you don’t have to agree with my decision to Leave but it was my decision I did what I believed was best and I had the right to vote and no one, absolutely no one has the right to tell me the vote was not accepted and they want a rerun. I will fight my right no matter what it takes, if I have to go to Westminster I will fight my cause.
Well Andrew it is not me putting out abuse is it?
The EU has lots of things wrong with it.
What we have done is, in my opinion, going to take a lot of sorting out.
Merkel is electable and can be dumped. They must like her enough.
She’s there because of democracy. They can vote her out if they want.
Good for you Anna.
And that is exactly what democracy is about. Anything less is tyranny and repression.
And people bleat on about human rights! Don’t make me laugh.
Democracy is great. I wish we had it.
Human rights are crucial.
You had a democratic vote and your human rights were therefore not violated.
In order to have democracy we have to have a number of issues apart from a vote – unbiased information and a free press being a couple. My human rights are violated every time I’m lied to.
You have Democracy, only you don’t recognise it. Go to a Country without it then tell me different.
We have a vote for representatives from a narrow choice with a media feeding us lies and disingenuous information masquerading as democracry. I’m surprised at your simplicity. But then it fits your current narrative. Never mind.
Well said Opher. Respect and tolerance, not hate.
“Respect/Tolerance and not hate”, yes what a pity that at the present time it is missing from GB.
Then it might be an idea to put it back instead of stirring it up.
Doing my best.
They’ve got some weird protective legal processes in force in Germany. There is a movement to remove her soon as and in the German press daily.
Andrew, the sooner the better, I heard her speak on TV she is one difficult woman.
She’s got even more power now, hasn’t she?
Right. We’ll see.
This wordpress can’t cope.
But you had said words to the effect that people hadn’t used their brains and used their others.
It might have been in another post that you imported from another blog. Whatever, I did read it.
Right – I knew I would not say anything like that. I don’t spread that sort of garbage. You had Anna believing it.
Really? I would not put any money on that if I were you, Opher.
As you no know, I do have a very good memory.
And Anna was absolutely right to believe it, too, because you will find your written words contained within the following post:
Here is the garbage that you insist that you do not spread.
The Reason To Remain – In A Nutshell – Posted 22nd June.
You said on 23rd June at 1:55 pm, sentence #4
“They are voting with their glands rather than their brains (for either side)”
I think this speaks for itself and you do indeed have a very selective memory which you use against others to suit yourself. You inflict false claim and false conjecture towards others.
just re read a message from you Opher at 3.34 this afternoon, you mentioned something I repeated that came from you, was “manufactured” really was this meant for me or all those out there who read your blog!!
How on earth am I meant to find what you are referring to among all this spaghetti? Was that the thing that Andrew put out that supposed to be a quote of mine but wasn’t? About leavers thinking with their nether regions? Because I never said that.
