It appears that there is a rule which states that if the referendum is below a 75% turnout the outcome is only valid if there is a clear percentage of above 60% for or against. If the result of a referendum is close and the turn out under 75% then it should go to a second referendum.

  1. Horrified by the referendum decision! I fear for the Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I live in NI and fear for the peace process. We cannot allow the UK to walk away from our European neighbours and friends unchallenged. For the sake of peace in Europe and the potential for the next generation/s we must challenge this referendum decision. I have signed the petition. I hope we can at least make a challenge.
