Chris Riddell Cartoon – EU Oops!!

Chris really puts his finger on things.

The EU displays the very worst of its attributes – a gift for our Brexiteering friends.

It’s ponderousness and inability to react quickly to events (as with mass immigration) fed the Brexiteers with ammunition. It really does need to find a way of streamlining its reaction time.

The vaccines were a prime example. They were slow to get involved, tried for too long to get the price down, and ended up well down the queue – hence they can’t get adequate vaccine and the roll-out is poor.

It highlights what needs fixing.

Their response was a bit of a knee-jerk.

I wish we were in there fixing the problem! But them our bunch of clowns couldn’t fix an elastoplast on a scratch!

EU Referendum Rerun Petition – Approaches 2,500,000 in a day!!!

This is not in any way a repudiation of democracy. This is merely saying that a vote of this huge importance should not be decided on such a narrow margin. It has too many dire ramifications. There should be a clear margin before embarking on an action with such possible dire consequences.

Vote and make your protest felt.

The EU Referendum Rerun petition approaches a staggering 2 Million!! There are millions of us who want our future back!!

The level of absolute horror at the enormity of the stupidity hits home as Britain wakes up to the reality of what is about to happen. Millions of people want their future back!! They don’t want Boris, Gove and Farage’s lies, fear and hate! They want cooperation and unity and an outward looking Britain!

You can actually watch it go up by thousands in a minute!

Sign up – We want our Future back!!

Sign the petition for a second referendum. There is a rule that if the turnout is under 75% the result has to exceed 60%. We want our future back. Sign the petition.

It appears that there is a rule which states that if the referendum is below a 75% turnout the outcome is only valid if there is a clear percentage of above 60% for or against. If the result of a referendum is close and the turn out under 75% then it should go to a second referendum.
On a decision as far-reaching as this a clear majority should, in my opinion, be necessary. Sign up for a second referendum:

We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based a turnout less than 75% there should be another …

Shine – a rallying call for positivity – and other anthems

For all that we struggle
For all we pretend
It don’t come down to nothing
Except love in the end
And ours is a road
That is strewn with goodbyes
But as it unfolds
As it all unwinds
Remember your soul is the one thing
You just can’t compromise
Take my hand
We’re gonna go where we can shine
We’re gonna go where we can shine
We’re gonna go where we can shine

I have just completed my exercise and have my IPod on random. Serendipity comes up with some great stuff doesn’t it?

This was the sequence:

Sixty Minute Man – Bill Ward & Dominoes

New Amsterdam – Elvis Costello

Down on the mainspring, listen to the tick tock
Clock all the faces that move in on your block
Twice shy and dog tired because you’ve been bitten
Everything you say now sounds like it was ghost-written

Back in London they’ll take you to heart after a little while
Though I look right at home I still feel like an exile

Somehow I found myself down at the dockside
Thinking of the old days of Liverpool and Rotherhide
The transparent people who live on the other side
Living a life that is almost like suicide

Shine – David Gray

For all that we struggle
For all we pretend
It don’t come down to nothing
Except love in the end
And ours is a road
That is strewn with goodbyes
But as it unfolds
As it all unwinds
Remember your soul is the one thing
You just can’t compromise
Take my hand
We’re gonna go where we can shine
We’re gonna go where we can shine
We’re gonna go where we can shine

Psycho – The Fall

Spit on the streets
[Your heads and teeth]
Got nowhere to go
other than shows
Could never love
And the Psycho-Mafia
I’m talking about love
Psycho-Mafia
No soul in discos
No rock in the clubs
Bullheads in the pubs
And the city jobs
Could never love
And the Psycho-Mafia
Could never love
Psycho-Mafia
Psycho-Mafia
Psycho-Mafia
‘cho Mafia
‘cho Mafia
Spit in the streets
[your heads and teeth]
Our eyes are red
Our brains are dead
Going on about drugs
Psycho-Mafia
Could never love
Psycho-Mafia

A message of hope from Avaaz – A message of hope

Right now we need hope. We need to promote the outward looking, cooperation and tolerance of unity, and hope that it can overcome the xenophobia and hatred of isolation.

Check out the link of hope and sign up for hope and positivity.

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/love_will_win/?bCAwEjb&v=78405&cl=10283438353&_checksum=7536d3daa3fc9e230ee174b645f24dc96bbe3ca20ca0de8b665047f5bb54fdb9

This is what Avaaz had to say. I agree with it all:

Today is a painful and shocking day for Britain, for Europe, and for our world. But, in one way, it may have been what we needed.

The progress we have built in our world of openness, tolerance, and interconnection is not something we can take for granted, it must be continuously, vigilantly sustained. We need an ethic, spirit and culture of human connection and unity to keep the dark forces of our past – nationalism, racism – at bay.

Our community beautifully brought love and unity to the campaign to stay in Europe, but it was not enough, this time, to win.

But we must not falter now – this is one battle on a larger tapestry and the forces of fear and division are rising. We must make Brexit a call to arms for our movement, a spark that reignites our passion to defend and renew the project of human peace and unity that our parents and grandparents wisely advanced from their painful experience.

The future is with us, if we can carry the banner long enough to hand it off to the next generations. Let’s gather our courage and commitment to fight for the world we all dream of. Use the tool on the right to share a message of inspiration, solidarity and hope for the road ahead.

“We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.” – Jo Cox MP (1974-2016)

Scaremongering and lies?

Sometimes a warning is not scaremongering.

£200 billion wiped out in half an hour.

The pound dropping like a stone to 1985 levels – twice as bad as the financial crisis.

Jobs, pensions, house prices, wages?

Prices through the ceiling? Wages through the floor?

What future the public services? The NHS is safe?

How long before terrorist bombs start exploding?

The break-up of the UK?

The break-up of Europe?

Russia sitting gleeful?

Bumbling Boris as leader? Or Coco the Clown? Privatisation? Austerity?

Talk about slitting your own throat – move over Greece we’re joining you.

Or is this me scaremongering again?
