Rezaul Karim Siddique, 58, was a professor of English at Rajshahi University. He was hacked to death on the streets on the way home with machetes. His crime – setting up a school.
This follows similar attacks on religious minorities and secular figures.
Bloggers who have stated they have no religion have been hacked to death.
People who have turned their back on Islam have been hacked to death.
People who belong to Ahmadi, Sufi or Shia sects of Islam have been brutally killed.
Westerners, Hindus, and Christians have been killed.
Are we looking at a new age of medieval barbarity? Is Bangladesh and Pakistan falling back into uncivilised ruin?
It is time the governments hunted down these sick individuals and eradicated them. There is no room in a civilised world for such disgusting animals.
They’ve given up on hearts and minds, then …
There is a scary intolerance and brutality to it. It is like they are straight out of the superstitious theocracies of long ago.
I was listening to an Iraqi professor talking about ISIS this morning. He said that it was largely political. The Sunni’s have latched on to it because of their fears and persecution – a lot of ignorant Sunni farmers from the countryside.
A perfect storm, alas …
Exactly – and it is drawing in intelligent westerners who are disenchanted with the society they see around them and latching on to something they can give themselves wholeheartedly to. It’s an idealistic totality – a utopian dream. Shame it is such a barbaric dystopia of a cruel death cult with no future. We need a bit of that idealism to make this culture better and they are wasting it on such a hideously intolerant, cruel stupidity.
I heartily agree!
Cheers Cheryl.
