The Amalfi Cathedral of St Andrews.

Cathedrals, like mosques and temples from time immemorial, are the ICBMs of religion. They are meant to be impressive. They are designed to create awe so that all that behold them buy into the religion. After all, it must have some substance if people are prepared to sacrifice so much time and effort into producing something so wondrous. They cost a fortune.

Well I don’t buy into the religion but I do appreciate the art and architecture. They certainly utilised the very best artists and designers in their efforts to impress.

Parts actually date back to the 9th century.

The crypt was incredibly ornate. Religion is all about death isn’t it?
