Taipei – attending an antigovernment demo in Liberty Square! 2004.

I’m always up for a good bit of protest against our authoritarian masters!! The protest was about a rigged election. Democracy??

A few images from Taipei.

As Taiwan is being threatened with annihilation by China it reminded me of our wonderful visit there in 2004. I thought I’d dig out some images.

We were lucky enough to stumble across a massive protest in support of democracy taking place in Liberty Square. We had to join in!

Taipei – Taiwan – streets and parks

When somewhere is unfamiliar even the ordinary is exotic.

This was a hugely impressive square and mausoleum.

Taiwan – photos from around Taipei

My daughter worked in Taipei so we went to Taiwan for a visit and took the opportunity to tour around the whole island.

For the first few days it was interesting to walk around the city and get a feel of the place.

We visited Taiwan in 2004 and visited Liberty Square. There was a huge rally taking place to defend democracy against the corruption of the military and establishment. We joined in and waved our flags. I still have mine. It looked very hairy for a time. There were a lot of police and military around and we were the only westerners around.taipei 1 097 taipei 1 086 taipei 1 084

We survived and had a look round the impressive Chaing Kai Shek memorial and concert hall

Liberty Square was massive.

Some of their restaurants looked interesting.

I should have offered to help with their English perhaps?
