Open Your Eyes – A Poem about all Possibility!!

Wonder and Awe

Open Your Eyes

We open our eyes into a wondrous place;

Close them and it is gone.

What gives it meaning?

‘Curing the sick,’

Says the physician,

Operating on the tiny child.

‘Giving life to the dying,

Hope to the parents,

Relief to those in pain.

That provides the meaning.’

Understanding the universe,’

Says the scientist,

Solving the problems of the world.

‘Finding what makes the atoms tick,

Where we came from

And the secrets in the depths of space.

That provides the meaning.’

‘Making something beautiful,’

Says the artist,

Creating something unique.

‘Crafting a scene so wondrous

That it moves the soul

And opens the heart to love.

That provides the meaning.’

‘Caring for those in need,’

Says the nurse,

Smoothing the hair from the troubled brow.

‘Providing comfort

From the stress and strain,

From pain and fear.

That provides the meaning.’

‘Worshipping God,’

Says the Bishop

On her knees in prayer.

‘Giving thanks for our lives,

The wonders of the universe

And hope for all eternity.

That is what gives life meaning.’

‘Living in the wonder of the moment,’

Says the atheist.

‘Taking pleasure in the awe

Of each and every moment

And wanting nothing more.

That is what gives life meaning.

We open our eyes into a wondrous place;

Close them and it is gone.

What gives it meaning?

Sometimes it is important to reflect that life is short and means different things to different people.

Perhaps there is no meaning other than what we give it?

All I know is that we are born; open our eyes into a place of wonder; live our lives, and then close our eyes and it is gone.

What takes place in between is a product of our desires, our cultural perspective, our indoctrination, our free will and our experiences. Perhaps nothing more.

We live in a moment. We can choose what we make of that.

Poetry – Eyes Open – A poem to the splendour around us.

Awe and Wonder

IMG_7822

I wanted to write a poem to encapsulate the incredible beauty of the universe and life on this vibrant jewel of a planet.

Evolution has provided us with sense in order to enable us to survive. It has provided us with a brain to process the data. Our senses see all that is around us in order to protect us from predators and enable us to find food and shelter.

An offshoot of this is that we have developed consciousness that allows us to comprehend, create and wonder.

The world around us is full of immense beauty. Life on this planet has evolved into immaculate forms. The natural features of this planet are marvellous to behold.

We should open our senses to the full and bask in it and thank chance for dealing us this hand.

We are possibly the only intelligent life in the whole universe who are able to witness the extent of this wonder. I hope that we are able to not only appreciate but preserve the splendour we are surrounded with; much of it is delicate.

Eyes Open

Surrounded:

Petal and scale

Iridescent –

Galactic

Majesty

Replete.

Feather

Wing and crystal,

Aromatic scent

Creating

Awe and wonder

We cannot repeat.

In the midst

Of splendour

We exist

With sense

To feel

It all;

With open eyes

And ears

To insist

That life is here

To feel

That pull.

There is wonder in our being;

Greatness in our seeing,

And love enough

To hold it all in

Thrall.

Poetry – Sunsets  and Rainbows

Sunsets  and Rainbows

Sunsets and rainbows

Are poems in the sky.

Forests and Oceans

The tales of where and why.

There are stories in the rocks

And paintings in the clouds,

Dancing in the flower meadows

Music from the crowds.

The symphonies they produce

Paint murals in the skull

The operas of the universe

Never considered dull.

Life is wondrous and nature is so amazing. Its beauty and immensity is more splendiferous than any works of man. All we can do is marvel at it.
