Rene Magritte Quotes.

Rene Magritte is my favourite artist. I love the paradoxes. He was such a conservative looking man who painted the most extraordinary bizarre works of art
Surrealism is an exploration of the subconscious. Nobody did it better.
Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.
If the dream is a translation of waking life, waking life is also a translation of the dream.
We live a dream.
The mind loves the unknown. It loves images whose meaning is unknown, since the meaning of the mind itself is unknown.
Nothing is ever really known if reality is suspect.
Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.
Life and the universe, death and love – it’s all a mystery.

Poetry – Surreal – an ode to Dali

dali

I always loved Dali. He was a showman, used car salesman, and an incredible artist. I loved the humour, trickery and expertise. There was always a sparkle in his eye and mischief in the making. You could take nothing on face value. I also adored his imagination, inventiveness and disdain for officialdom. He was a rebel.

Perhaps he did sell out? Perhaps he was arrogant? I’m not so sure. He was an artist and one of my favourites.

I wrote this after visiting Gala’s house in Spain. It was crazy. What a game!

Surreal

Confuse me with long legged giraffes

Beneath the melting clock

Armed with the Dali Gala

Feed me the nuclear shock

For I will wax my moustache

And cavort with the ants

Within the world of my dreams

That your colours all enhance

My ten favourite artists! This is a lot easier than books and a million times easier than song!

Opher PeteThis is art!

I love art and have a number of favourite artists that I never tire of. These are they:

a. Rene Magritte

The man looks so ordinary but his mind zings about with weirdness. I like weirdness. He makes me laugh.

b. Salvador Dali

Not only an incredible mind but what an artist and showman.

c. Pablo Picasso

An imagination loose in the world.

d. Auguste Renoir

I did not much like Renoir until I got to see his paintings displayed in Paris. The colours shot out at me. He is an artist that does not transfer to prints. Books do not do him justice.

e. Edward Burra

I was knocked out by his paintings of Harlem and the underworld.

f. Auguste Macke

A German impressionist who left an impression on me. I loved his colours.

g. Heironymus Bosch

A surrealist from the past who depictions of hell were astonishing.

h. Vincent Van Gogh

That use of colour was incredible. Such a shame that he wasn’t appreciated in his own time.

I. Paul Gaugin

Those mauves get to me and I’m colour blind!

j. Wassily Kandinsky

I could loose myself in all those shapes and colours.

k. Joan Miro

It looks so easy and yet it is the hardest thing to do.

OK That’s my ten. They look incredibly predictable. It makes me think I should have dredged up more of my more obscure likes.
