I’m not sure if it is just what the Chinese think tourists like or if it a characteristic of Chinese culture but there does seem to be a tendency to produce garish colouring. The Karst Caves were an amazing display of stalagmites and stalactites. The Chinese seem to think that they are better when you light them up with coloured lighting.
Having said that – I have seen the same thing in caves in Vietnam and Gibraltar.
