Guilin is a fascinating place. I wouldn’t mind going back again.

Guilin – China – sailing down the River Li. Photos.
The most amazing landscape – weird mountains and tropical vegetation.

Guilin – China – An oasis in a magic landscape – Photos
We walked along dirt roads beside the river and arrived at this wonderful little restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The place was enchanted.

China – Guilin – Walking through the paddy fields during festival time.
The roads were full of cyclists with flowers in their hair. They were hiring bamboo rafts and cruising along the river squirting each other with bamboo squirters. It was all relaxed and cheerful. Very friendly. Fun time.

Guilin – Life on the River Li – photos
As we went further down the river Li we passed fishermen, people carrying goods on bamboo rafts, water buffalo and little farming communities.

Guilin – Up the river through the willow-pattern mountains.
We took a small boat up the river Li. It weaved in and out of the strange mountains. It was a bit misty but so atmospheric.

China – Guilin – The Buddhist statues in the Reed Flute Caves.
A lot of the ancient monuments were destroyed during the cultural revolution. Fortunately not everything was lost.

China – The Reed Flute Caves
The Chinese do like gaudy colours and these incredible stalagmites and stalactites are bathed in bright lights.

Guilin is a fairy land. The mountains are surreal.
