Brexit has proved an unmitigated disaster just as it was predicted it would be. The extreme nationalist loonies of the ERG have allowed their rabid xenophobia and racism to run rampant and it has badly damaged the country. I doubt we will ever recover. Too many companies have gone under or fled. To much cooperation has been lost.

It’s a question of damage limitation now.

By all means honour the vote and stay out of the EU but get back into the Single Market and Customs Union before we completely lose our Financial Centre and Car Market.

Poetry – Today I wear Black

This is what I wrote three years ago when we stupidly pulled out of the EU and by so doing put millions into the likes of Rees-Mogg’s bank account.

At the time all the claims of red tape, delays, increased costs, tariffs, labour problems, shortages, lowering of GDP and travel restrictions were labelled PROJECT FEAR!.

We were told that food prices would come tumbling down, there would be no restrictions, fabulous new trade deals for Global Britain, no red tape, no delays, no restrictions, no shortages, no labour problems and we’d be FREE!!

We were assured that the rights of workers would be better, environment standards would be improved and everything would be of a higher standard than the EU

WE WERE HEADING FOR THE SUNLIT UPLANDS!!

WE WERE LIED TOO!!

Project fear was shown to be real in every single respect. Britain is now severely damaged with a 4% drop in GDP, no money to pay the NHS or Schools, firms fleeing abroad or going bust, no worthwhile trade deals, austerity forever, workers’ rights and environmental standards dropping, rivers full of sewage, lousy trade deals, less power and severe shortages of labour and goods.

Not only that but it put the clown Boris Johnson in power with a huge majority. Gave the extremist ERG lunatic nationalists power. Empowered racists and xenophobes and has broken Britain.

All to get Johnson in Power!!

No wonder I chose to wear black!! I still do!!

Today I wear Black

Today I shall wear black

In recognition

Of our lessening power and influence.

I shall wear black

In recognition

Of our weakening economy.

I shall wear black.

I shall wear black

In protest

At our jingoistic nationalism.

I shall wear black

For our loss.

For the loss of cooperation,

For the loss of my grandchildren’s dreams.

I shall wear black.

I will wear black

For the Eton boys and bankers

Who conned us

With their fear-ridden vision

From which they will profit greatly

I shall wear black.

I wear black for the victims of the next war

Born of isolation and arrogance.

I shall wear black

For the nostalgia

For a time that never was

For the Dunkirk spirit and terror of the Blitz

For rationing and poverty

As if these were wonderful.

And I shall wear black

For the things that we must now endure

The inequality and lies

The privilege and ignorant masses

I shall wear black.

For if we really understood

We should all wear black.

As we came out of the EU, burdening ourselves with more red tape and removing opportunities from our kids, it is a time of loss and sadness.

Wearing black is appropriate at such times.

Where are the media and Labour over the Yellowhammer report? The results of a hard Brexit were laid out. Why aren’t Johnson and the ERG being held to account?

The results of a hard Brexit were clearly laid out in the Yellowhammer Report in 2019. The ERG knew there was going to be a big price to pay for Brexit.

They knew there would be:

Food shortages

Price rises

Inflation

HGV driver shortages

Tax hikes

Pay freezes or cuts

Impact on trade – a big loss of imports and exports

Impact on fishing and agriculture

A skill shortage

A shortage of drivers, fruit and veg pickers, carers, nurses, doctors, caterers, hotel staff and many other workers.

It was all laid out in the Yellowhammer report.

They went ahead anyway despite the huge impact. They obviously thought it was worth it.

They also thought they could get away with lying about it to get it through.

They told us:

It would save us billions which would go to the NHS – a lie

There would be huge opportunities for trade with far superior trade deals – a lie

Fishing and agriculture would prosper – a lie

We would be richer with better standards – a lie

There would be no red-tape, delays or tariffs – a lie

The UK union was safe and there would be no border in Northern Ireland – a lie

The truth is that there are no fabulous trade deals.

Brexit has cost us an incredible amount – far more than all the money paid into the EU over forty years.

Fishing and agriculture is in crisis because their markets are gone.

We are having shortages and rising costs because of the delays, borders, tariffs and extra costs.

The union is under threat because there are borders and they did not vote for this.

The HGV crisis is just one of the many crises due to staff shortages, skill shortages – shortages that cannot be easily addressed. It takes time to train up people even if they want to do the job.

The petrol, energy, tax, food, NI rises were inevitable – someone has to pay for all this and that is not the rich.

The pay cuts and price rises due to Brexit are being disguised with Covid.

So why did Johnson and the ERG go for a hard Brexit (when they did not have a mandate for a Hard Brexit)?

They saw a way to gain power.

They saw a way to make great personal gain (such as Rees-Moggs £7 million and the revolving door into lucrative jobs).

They hated the EU.

They were Nationalists who believed that regaining power was worth any price.

They were xenophobic.

They were racists who believed that they were superior to all other human beings.

There might well be a percentage of the British public who for one reason or another agree with them. Who feel that Brexit was worth it at any price.

I bet the majority of the British public do not agree with that.

The truth is:

We were cynically lied to and they need holding to account for that. They never told us what the price was that we would inevitably pay.

They knew that price before they went ahead and deliberately decided to lie to us.

They knew they would never get Brexit through if they told the truth.

So why aren’t Labour and the media clinically analysing the Yellowhammer Report and holding the government to account for their deliberately lies and deception?

People are beginning to wake up to the devastating cost of Brexit. Tariffs, red-tape, delays, rising costs, empty supermarket shelves, massive trade deficit, firms going under, rising costs, higher taxes………… all covered up by the Tory Brexiteers!! They hide it behind covid and huge borrowing!! It is bankrupting the country!!

The army is being brought in to drive goods, to work in A&E – they’ll be picking fruit and veg soon!!

He started off with lies about Brexit and a financial dividend of THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION A WEEK.

We’ve already paid out more that we’ve put into the EU the whole time we were in it. It has cost us countless billions.

He called any criticism of Brexit ‘PROJECT FEAR’.

Now Project Fear is becoming reality.

He has now presided over the worst death rate per capita from Covid-19 in the whole world!

He is also presiding over the worst effect on the economy of any country in the world.

He has been lazy and incompetent in every office he has ever held.

When is he going to be held to account?
