Today’s Music to keep me SANE in Isolation – The Last Poets

I stumbled upon the Last Poets in the seventies through Gil Scott Heron. They were like a precursor of rap – putting their poetry to music. They used drums, African rhythms and jazz to emphasise their words – and what words!! They were precursors of both Hip Hop and Rap! Their poems are full of fire and they are so innovative!!

They were angry. I like anger when expressed against injustice. Exploited people have a right to be angry. I loved their black consciousness poetry. It was strong.

So today I will get my Last Poets CDs out and blast myself.

I'd like to hear from you...
