Paradise for the Rich?? Purgatory for the Poor???

The leaking of the Paradise Papers sheds light on what we already know.

They clearly demonstrate the full extent of the scam being carried out by the rich elite. 13.4 million documents from a variety of off-shore tax havens in Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Labuan, Lebanon, Malta, the Marshall Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vanuatu, clearly demonstrates the extent of the problem. This is not small time.

The rich and powerful are secretly hoarding away their ill-gotten gains in tax havens abroad in order to avoid paying tax. And you know what the worst part of it is – this is legal!!!

Despite all the austerity programmes and massive cuts: despite the millions on the bread-line, cuts in welfare and for the disabled; despite the underfunding of schools and the NHS, the underfunding of care-homes for the elderly and services for communities, it is still alright for the rich to get pay rises, tax breaks and find tax loopholes. Even the Queen is squirrelling away 10 Million.

I find it obscene. But we have become used to it haven’t we?

We live in a country where our tax forms are scrutinised to ensure we pay every penny and have to justify every pound of income. Where the media shriek about a few people who have benefit fraud and are robbing the tax payers of thousands. Yet the rich are legally robbing the tax payers of billions.

That money that they are taking abroad should be properly taxed and invested in the countries it was ‘earned’ in (I use that term loosely). What these people are doing is criminal!! They should be made to pay!!!

How many more times are governments going to promise to seal these loopholes?? They do nothing. The rich and powerful can do what they like. There is one rule for one and another for the rest of us.

The rich and powerful are robbing us blind!!

  1. On our morning news, this breaking story identified our PM Justin Trudeau’s chief fundraiser and three of our former PMs named. Elect a socialist government and these loopholes will disappear very quickly.

      1. Come on Opher. Start with the damn Queen and the rest of the hypocrites in that so called Family. British Taxpayers are going to be asked to pay for this ridiculous wedding, of a divorced woman – what a joke as the Queen is the head of The Church of England, then the taxpayer will have to pay for their home and the constant security then two maybe three years down the line when this bit, they are already calling a princess, has had enough and wants a divorce, who pays for that US. Get rid of the Royals now and that would be a start. What are you going to do elect very rich Corbyn, and that would solve this Country’s problems, you know deep down it won’t, we will be in an even bigger s..thole. Corbyn has endorsed a piece of scum, shame on him.

      2. Oh yes – I’d do away with the tax evading aristocracy. A good idea Anna. Long overdue.
I can’t see hiow you can accuse Corbyn of being very rich though. Trying looking at what Osborne was earning by telling companies how to avoid paying taxes – using his inside knowledge gained as a chancellor. I call that treason.

    1. Electing a Socialist Government will not make these problems disappear. Do you honestly believe in this Country there are not Labour MPs, maybe even wealthy Corbyn himself not involved in these screwing away their money on Jersey etc. We need to start at the very top, the Queen, who has been doing this far longer than people realize.

      1. I didn’t say a socialist government would be a perfect fix. I can’t speak for the UK but I do believe that a socialist government would me more willing to start the cleanup in western democracies.

      2. I think you’re right John. At least they wouldn’t be giving tax cuts to the rich while squeezing the poor and they’d support public services.

    1. Of course it’s worked elsewhere Anna. Look at the standard of living in the social democrat European countries. It sure works there.

  2. The worst thing is they’ve convinced us we can’t do anything about it. I see a civil war in both our countries’ futures… The forces of anger have been let lose now.

  3. I’m an ignoramus when it comes to money matters so this is probably rather simplistic, but why can’t we nationalise money – make it totally transparent so that all financial dealings are vetted and tax etc. can be accurately assessed and taken? Also, why is there speculation on money itself, which is surely not a commodity but a means of exchanging commodities and services? And whenever I ask how the stock exchange benefits the real economy, I get blank looks. Oh dear, too many questions, think I need a lie down … 🙂

    1. What we need to do is internationalise money. Just think if there was just one currency it would stop all that speculation and stupidity.

      1. Absolutely! Bet the vested interests would have something to say, though, or else say nothing but sabotage the scheme in their usual sneaky ways …
