How about investigating Global Warming now? Is Texas just a warning of what is to come? Harvey and Katrina are holding hands.

One of the first acts of Donald Trump was to pull out of the Paris Climate Treaty and disband the environmental Agencies monitoring and investigating Global Warming and Climate Change.

An act of supreme irresponsibility. Even if you don’t agree with something it is best to monitor what is going on.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary – the hurricanes, ice-cap melting, rise in sea-level, warming of seas, heatwaves, changes in sea and air currents, weather extremes, downpours, floods, droughts, record temperatures, changes in vegetation, migration of species etc. – Donal Trump remains a denier.

That seems stupid to me but he has his agenda. He wants to make money. He wants a licence to pollute.

What seems undeniable is that something is going on globally that requires investigation.

With global warming indisputably occurring it seems only common sense to investigate why, monitor it closely, ascertain what effects are likely to be felt and where, take precautions against these effects, bring in contingency plans and try to do something to prevent catastrophes.

Indisputably carbon dioxide levels have risen and the planet is warming. This does not seem due to any natural event – solar, volcanic or whatever – it seems due to our burning of fossil fuels. Perhaps it is not too stupid to suggest that this could do with further investigation?

As air warms its carrying capacity of water increases dramatically. What is happening in Texas is not a freak accident. It is a certainty. The Gulf of Mexico is a warm sea. Air becomes loaded with water and deposits that water on land. If it is warmer it carries more water and deposits more. The warmth also fuels hurricanes. The hotter it is the bigger the storms.

First the disaster of Katrina and now the flooding in Texas. Are they natural phenomenon? Are they manmade? How will we know if the people looking into it were all sacked?

Perhaps the good people of Texas should politely ask Mr Trump to put the agencies back together to monitor global warming, ask the questions and look for solutions?

Or are we going to put our heads back in the sand and pretend nothing untoward is going on?

  1. Put your self into Mr Trumps mind ; he believes the climate changes and has always changed throughout the ages, it is the work of God and we have to live with that. If you were to ask him why God allowed such terrible catastrophes he would simply reply that is God’s business , but we are walking in the ways of darkness. With all religious people you reach an impasse due to their mind set and reason becomes a useless tool. Mr Trump would say God wants us to create wealth and prosperity in America and the world and scaremongering about climate simply prevents the will of God.

      1. Yes that’s what many religious people claim to walk in the will of God. Mind you if the will means suffering then you will find numbers of adherents fall off rapidly.

  2. Storms will get stronger and more frequent. 500 year floods will happen regularly. If we don’t start to mitigate global warming now, it will only get worse. Thanks for the post.

  3. It will be most interesting to see what he does about this now. After all Texas is about as Red a state as they come. I wonder if he’ll rise to the occasion for all those there who voted for him. He’s already whining about how EXPENSIVE this clean-up is going to be. It’s always about the money. FEMA is going to be there for years. Our pastor is head of the disaster relief arm of the Methodist church. He’s already organizing work crews. Unfortunately it will be spring before they let some agencies in there.

    1. Rather hoisted on his own petard. Deny global warming at your peril. Perhaps he will change his mind now?

  4. Trump is a very irresponsible and narcissistic fool. He’ll never change even if his Florida resort was flooded and largely destroyed. This is an important post – thanks!

      1. But all is not lost. There has been an enormous reaction and many States are sticking to the Paris accord.

  5. We have an unholy alliance between the dishonest polluters and the religious right which is dumbing down the debate. Beam me up, Scotty!
