Cesar Chavez Quotes

Cesar Chavez was a non-violent activist for the rights of the Mexican American farm workers. He worked to give farm workers rights, a fair wage and dignity.
He helped unionise and gain respect for exploited workers.
Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.
Variety is the spice of life provided it does not produce intolerance, disrespect or violence.
If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.
You do not get to know someone until you’ve shared a meal.
You are never strong enough that you don’t need help.
None of us are. Together we are strong.
There is no such thing as defeat in non-violence.
It has been proved time and time again. You cannot defeat determined non-violence. It has the moral high ground.
Real education should consist of drawing the goodness and the best out of our own students. What better books can there be than the book of humanity?
Too true! Education is development not rote learning. If we do not produce creative caring people we are wasting our time.
Students must have initiative; they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves – and be free.
Education is liberating not imprisonment. It is the most enjoyable experience of all.

Cultural diversity is enriching! Mongrels have more vigour!

  1. Love them all, but especially “If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.”

      1. Still on for September. This trip to Maryland to see the kids was an eye opener for us of some of the difficulties, especially with my back, we might run into. I’ve been back in therapy for three months, and sleeping in Stef and Jesse’s old, old, OLD bed for five days just undid everything I’ve been trying so hard to fix. Arn had to go buy me a TENS unit for the pain when we got back. I swear I’m starting to feel just like Anna!

      2. There is nothing like back pain. The vertebral column was not constructed for bipedal walking. Nothing to suggest – only sympathise!

      3. It’s just an old injury from a sledding accident in ’82 that has continued to deteriorate. I have four discs herniated and severe spinal stenosis. Someday when I’m about 78 they will decided to do something about it! They don’t want to ruin my “quality of life” right now. It’s ok that I AM walking like cromagnun woman! I’ve been to this rodeo a few times over the years… It eventually settles down.

      4. Those old injuries sneak up on us when we get older. Our bodies are not meant to live past thirty so I guess we’re doing well and should be thankful despite all the aches and pains. The trouble with back pain is that you cannot get it comfortable no matter what you do. I hope it settles down soon. I know how it feels. I have an old rugby injury that does the same in my neck and thorax. It all tightens up and that’s it.

I'd like to hear from you...
