Selling the World
When all the forests are gone, all the wildernesses paved, all the wild-life eradicated and all the resources exploited; what will we have left then?
Will anybody care?
Will all the people go gaily about their lives without a thought, not noticing the difference?
Will they live their lives in their domiciles, walk down streets to the shopping mall, travel in computer driven vehicles, sit in manicured gardens, and watch mind-numbing media? Or will they miss the birds, bees and wild things?
Will they visit a zoo, eat their pseudo-pop-corn and stare at the weird animals that used to roam freely?
Where will the oxygen come from then? Will it be produced by huge industrial processes?
Will the scientists have invented new plastic?
Will everyone eat healthy beef-burgers made from sterile, wholesome bacterial sludge?
Selling the World
We’re selling the future
For a bigger slice of today.
Ripping the heart out
And making it pay.
What price a forest?
A whale or a bee?
Profit to be made
Where nothing’s for free.
They are buying the planet
Piece by piece.
Evicting the occupants
And stealing their fleece.
Creating sterility
Where once it was rich.
Stealing their lives –
Throwing bodies in the ditch.
Looking ahead
To the world of then
I see no home
For tiger or lion.
A plastic universe
Made of uncaring greed
With no wilderness
For wild-life to breed.
They are selling my future
And yours too!
All that will remain
Are remnants,
Caged,
Tamed,
Beaten,
Destroyed,
And contained,
In a zoo.

I care, I protest in my way. I refuse to cut down my Trees, I plant more. I refuse to stop feeding the wildlife in my garden even though the neighbours do not like me doing it. I refuse to pave over my gardens, it’s wild out there and will stay wild. I refuse to watch mindless tv or listen to idiots talking about it. I guess I will just keep on being someone who cares about this World we live in and gradually is being destroyed.
I’m glad there are other people who feel like me but there are a lot of greedy idiots out there!
Money and power, or should it be power than money but that is how it is now, do you think we will ever win?
We have to win or the idiots will destroy it all. Thankfully there are a lot of people who care!
To watch all those youngsters in Paris so strong so determined made me proud. Good luck for the football match tonight. Enough of us care this Isis and all that support them have to be destroyed. What do you think about the Borders issue, open or close?
I want one world without borders and with greater equality. But until then I think we do need some border controls.
I want far greater integration. No religious schools or separate districts. I want to celebrate differences but have one overriding culture.
Why do people cut themselves off like they do, virtually “no go areas”. When the Irish came here, they were not wanted and there was such hatred from some, but the Irish never closed themselves off the mixed they worked on the roads, factories, hospitals etc and were finally accepted. I don’t think I will ever see one united World.
Fear. They cling together to support each other. They are frightened of change. I’ve been all over the world and found that all humans are people just like me. The vast majority are kind, helpful and tolerant. They go out of their way to help strangers. All humans are people of equal value.
You have travelled so much seen more than I could, I accept what you say.
It’s only based on my experience. Whenever I’ve been in need someone has been there.
You are a very fortunate man.
I know. I am incredibly fortunate.
Pass some over here.
I would if I could.
Thanks at least for the thought.
No problem! Did you see the football?
Yes, I found it rather moving so very pleased to see everyone united. Naturally the French players were so nervous and emotional but it was a good game. Have you seen the news from Paris, the Police have captured the leader terrorist, but what about all the others out there. The French government (we all) have a problem.
Yes – it was quite a show of solidarity and a great game – best we’ve played! I like the attacking style and Rooney seemed a bit sharper than he has been of late.
I gather there was a shoot out in Paris!
I can’t help thinking that this is a problem of our own making. It looks like they are going to get together to take out ISIS. They armed them! Putin said ‘God will punish those responsible. My job is to get them there’. I think that sums it up.
I don’t know if destroying them will solve the problem. It will put an end to all this Caiphate and Apocalypse nonsense but it will probably radicalise a million more and fill them with hatred.
Yes I know what you say is right, I feel they should go in and get rid of them but like you I know in saying “go in” you are only going to make these terrorists even more determined, more idiots here will join isis. It is of our own making, did we not arm these people, why must USA/UK interfere in other Countries, we have enough of our own problems. Opher I do not know what the answers are, it is like waiting for the next “attack”.
I have come to quite like Rooney He seems a good Captain would you say, learned to like football by watching it with my Father only via tv and it was my job when I was young to read the scores to him of a Saturday afternoon, it was my time with “Daddy”, happy memory. Very, very sad about young Jonah Lomu who died just 40 years of age, Heart Attack great player loved to watch him, do you like Rugby, I love it.
It is a question of getting terrorism into proportion. They kill very few compared to cars, crime and accidents. It is just that they make us all feel threatened. That’s terror. That is its purpose. They put images in our head. Perhaps they will be changes that improve the long-term situation. Integration rather than segregation. An end to this stupidity about not criticising Muslims for some of their intolerance and inequality. It is not racist to oppose inequality, misogyny or primitive laws. Intolerance needs opposing vigorously.
Yep Rooney is doing OK – but I was beginning to think he had lost it.
I love rugby – used to play it. Jonah was a great player. I cannot believe that anyone so powerful should die so young.
Their aim too is to destroy the economy of Countries as well isn’t. We have lived in this Country under the threats of the IRA in the past, I remember being in London when the IRA were doing such dreadful things, and people like my Parents and a woman I worked with Bridie, being abused because they were Irish, as bad as the IRA were this lot are absolute fanatics and who would have thought they would do what they did in Paris.
That poor lad had liver problems but he died of a Heart Attack, so young so unfair. Not surprised you played Rugby looking at your pictures in your books, I could just see you playing, who did you play with, a Club?
They regard all Westerners, Muslims who deal with Westerners or Muslims who are Shia as apostates. That is punishable by death. They want to destroy those economies, bring in stringent Sharia law as per seventh century and do away with all modern trappings – science, girls’ education, etc. A terrifying prospect.
I played for Esher Schoolboys and then University Vandals (a breakaway club).
It is all very frightening as to what they want to do. I fear for the Children all over the World, what future do they have. I will not spill any tears for the terrorists when they die it has been their choice of life but I will cry for all those innocents that have died and will die via them.
Rugby is a very tough sport did you ever have any serious injuries. “University Vandals”, I bet you came up with that name?
I think the human mind is very fragile. People become easily damaged. That is why a large percentage of abused become abusers, bullied become bullies and victims become perpetrators. They have been hurt and they hurt others. It can go either way. They can either develop greater empathy and emotional connection or become cold and callous.
I think a lot of men came back from the Second World War traumatised. A lot of them became cold, hard and unemotional. I was taught by some of those. They were damaged.
The world is a terrible unfair place. Most humans live in war, disease, poverty and starvation. They suffer. They become traumatised. They need help and treatment.
Those terrorists are severely messed up. They latch on to religion and take it to the extreme. They are sad people. They cannot celebrate life. They celebrate death.
The saddest thing, as you infer, is that they damage the next generation of kiids and muck them up too.
I played rugby for years and only had minor injuries – broke my nose five times (I never learn) and ironically rib damage. Later when I played one match a year for the staff against the school kids I ended up injured every time! (Ribs, knee, head). But I loved playing rugby.
No – I did not name them. The Vandals were a club that broke away from London University. They had a renegade ethos. They played for fun and were a bit chaotic. I think that’s why I was attracted to them.
I wondered that about my mother why she could be so cruel to mewhere did she get it from she would always say that her Mother and Father never hit her, my Grandparents were very gentle, my mother’s second brother where did he get it from that he would “touch me up” when we went to Ireland where could that possibly come from. Do you think abuse/violence and now hatred as we have seen this week are literally in a person.
I knew when I saw the name of the Rugby team it was just you. Goodness you had some injuries.
I don’t know. People become twisted in lots of different ways. Who knows what experience leads people to do horrible things. I think people are fragile.
No – not too many injuries. They were all minor. I was one of those all or nothing players – wholehearted. I didn’t hold back. But I was little and nippy. I was a hooker. I liked being in the middle of things. As pack leader my coach instructed me that my job was to be where the ball was. That’s what I enjoyed.
